Replacing powerflite auto with 3 speed column manual gearbox/clutch

Hi all. I do enjoy reading the forum from to time to time. The depth of knowledge and help given is wonderful.

I have a 1951 Canadian built pilot house 1/2 ton tray back.

The original 218 long block engine is frozen solid probably not helped by the fact the plugs in cylinders 2 & 3 were removed years ago and the truck was stored outside.

Anyway, I have a replacement Kew built long block motor (out of a 54 Plymouth) that was rebuilt about 8 years ago and hasn't done much work since.

This motor has a 2 speed powerflite auto attached.

My main concerns are with what problems will be encountered in removing the powerflite and attaching the bell housing and 3 speed manual gearbox from the old motor. I expect the flywheel will need to be swapped.

Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Ps the photos are of the truck about a year ago before the front was dismantled and the Kew motor.

It's interesting... I thought I read that the Canadian built trucks never got the corner windows, and yet your truck has them. Did they only do that for Australian export?

As long as they are both the 25 inch blocks, the main concern would be in the pan and oil pickup area. If you have a 23 and 25, there may be some issues in the front for clearance and mounting pads, radiator. What's on the back will swap over.

I think everything should swap over as long as they are both 25"s. Check that the pilot bushing hole in the crank is machined properly before you get too much bolted on.

If it was an automatic, there probably won't be a pilot bushing. Probably need to install one.

Yeah, how about keep the 2 spd AT, get a 3.55 diff, and fly down the highway at 75 mph. I think it would be cool to have that auto trans used in the truck....
