Htchevyii Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 Hi guys, I just bought a 1950 pickup on eBay, I haven't even seen it yet in person. Unfortunately, I can't pick it up until the weekend after next, so I don't know what I have really bought yet. I broke my own rule of buying an old vehicle without seeing it and inspecting it. For the price, I am not too worried. It seems to have a newer front grill panel, I will probably fabricate some type of custom grill insert for it. I am going to go for a shop truck type build, maybe a little on the ratty side. Here's a link to eBay, let me know what you think. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1950-Dodge-pickup-truck-custom-short-bed-/121319684443?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=RD%252F%252BTvJixRFa%252B9O%252BBKkUmMBnCAk%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc I really like this truck, it might belong to someone on here, I don't remember where I found the picture: Quote
48Dodger Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 Welcome to the forum! Looks like a great score. The grille is 51-53.....Get the correct grille parts and you're in business for a great shop truck, without the rat. It looks like a 50 from the grille on back, but definately not a 50 grille. The cab is 48-50 inside, so are the doors.....The bed is 48-50 as well. Things to get excited about are the Three front bumper guards and a rear bumper....very cool. IMO: To me, a Rat Rod is more exaggerated from the norm. A Hot Rod is an unfinished multi brand vehicle with elevated horse power.....when finished is futher definded as a custom, street rod etc. 48D Quote
48Dodger Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 (edited) Some pics to clarify what I'm talking about. The seller sez its a 50 with 53 sheet metal. The only 53 I see on your truck is the front grille. Note that your front grill has a chrome gille bar on the front of the hood, 51-53 doesnt have that. (refer to two tone Spring Special image) 53 is the only year with "square" rear fenders. 48-52 had the "round fenders like yours. The 51-53 hoods have a "step" body line on the edges, the 48-50's do not. Your hood is a 48-50 You are 95 percent 1950 B-2-B 108 Dodge Pilot-House Truck with a high side bed. 48D Edited April 25, 2014 by 48dodger Quote
MBF Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 Good find-looks to be pretty solid. You can't beat what you got for the price. I'll bet that front grill section is off a larger truck that had a grill protector on it (that's what I think the 2 holes between the headlights may be for). Good luck with your project. Mike Quote
ruff1148kr Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 Great Find. I would have pulled the trigger without seeing it also at that price. I am sure you could not be hurt at the price I paid half that for a firewall LOL Quote
1952B3b23 Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 Great find and welcome to the forum. You definitely did not go wrong for that price! -Chris Quote
HanksB3B Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 (edited) Welcome to the forum. Mine looked like that back in 1979. I paid $350 for mine so 35 years later at $525 I'd say you did well to pull the trigger sight unseen. It's green and it's a five window that's all that counts, Hank Edited April 25, 2014 by HanksB3B Quote
pflaming Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 Looks very good. The color is solid, I wouldn't destroy that, just clean it up. This truck was nearly white from 20 years in the sun. I cleaned it with lacquer thinner then wet sanded it with 800 griit. It was never polished. Quote
NiftyFifty Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 Looks like a great start for a project! If you do decide to use that grill back to a more stock look I have a set of the 51 grill bars for sale. Quote
B1B Keven Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 Welcome! The truck should come with the correct nose. I think Jerry (JerryBrown) gave him one. Was the previous owners name Mark? Seems like I talked to him. Quote
streamer Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 The black truck with the Moxie sign was my truck before the restoration. Quote
Htchevyii Posted April 26, 2014 Author Report Posted April 26, 2014 The guy I bought it from was named Ali. It would be a nice surprise if the correct nose is included, but he didn't mention it. I'm excited to go get it but until then, I'll have to be satisfied reading about your trucks and researching them. Thanks for your thoughts. Quote
B1B Keven Posted April 26, 2014 Report Posted April 26, 2014 Ah....... Let me see if I can find the right nose for ya. Quote
Htchevyii Posted April 28, 2014 Author Report Posted April 28, 2014 The black truck with the Moxie sign was my truck before the restoration. Well, it looked great before and awesome after! Quote
Htchevyii Posted May 5, 2014 Author Report Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) I drug the '50 home with my '05 yesterday. It was about 4 hours each way and the little 4.7 and 6 speed did fine. Edited May 5, 2014 by Htchevyii Quote
