hello

searching for a nice pair of door sill plates for my 1954 dodge royal 500  convertible pacecar. as you can see ,, mine are pretty beat up but solid. or maybe some company  out there can straighten them out .

maybe someone out there can  tell me  if the  54 dodge pacecar had different  style plates,  than a standard convertible.

See pics .

Thanks for any leads !

JR, these are made of aluminum and not stainless steel....

appearance wise, they are only different in spelling between them and the ones on my non-pace car 54 Plymouth coupe...except the Plymouth has a more cursive script than the block letters of the Dodge...

I have never seen a set reproduction or NOS that I can recall....

correct .......... these are made out of aluminum .

Do your sill plates have the "V" shaped designs on them too?

I just can't see how someone could get all these dents in these sill plates,, spiked heel shoes or something ......... this car sat for 45 years .

Thanks !

Those are actually pretty nice and way better than a lot of cars will have. I know of no one who does reproductions but there are shops out there that will refinish them for you. I would just work very gently on them myself to remove the worst of the dings and then use a good metal polisher to bring them back to life. Not perfect but pretty nice and who really sees them for more than a second at a time. If you don't do it yourself it will cost you plenty but as they say, "you gotta pay to play".

yeah........ that is some delicate, teadious  work there for sure .. that why companies will get the big $$'s

But....,it is also why they earn the big money.

Those are actually in pretty nice shape, and shouldn't be too expensive to have re-finished. If it were me,I'd ask a chrome shop for a price for taking the dents out and polishing them up. Compared to what it is going to cost you to get your rare convertible up,running, and nice again, that will just be a minor labor bill.

Will work from your originals if he doesn't slready have your pattern. Beautiful work, not quick, but easy to deal with. He did sills on my '38 & I recommend him completely!

Paul's chrome wants $250-$300 for each door sill plate to straighten and he can't repair dents in the scripted areas. Wow ! guess i'll start searching for something better than what I have for now. That's a lot of jingle !

Yeah,I'm with you on that one.

Maybe check out the arts and crafts department of a local college and see if they have any artist there that that likes working with and has experience working with aluminum. Don't limit yourself to automotive repair shops.

I recently had my front bumper re-chromed by Highline Plating in Cuba, MO.  They did some minor

straightening as well.  I think it came out great.  A friend went with me to deliver the bumper to the shop, and

looked at some of their handiwork sitting around.......then looked at my bumper when done.  He then sent

them his grille and front bumper for his 57 Olds.  Now, that's a lotta chrome.   They charged me around $400

for doing the bumper and a little bit more for chroming the heads of a few oval bumper bolts.

I would recommend these fellows.  I bet they would do a pair of good tail light frames for less than the above

mentioned price.  Even with shipping.

It's about a 3 hour drive from Joplin to Cuba, MO.  I took the bumper up there.  They said when it was done,

they would deliver it to me in Springfield, MO......which is only an hour away from me.  They called and I met

their man at a Wal Mart parking lot.  At the same time, they picked up my friend's Olds bumper so he never

did have to drive to Cuba.  Pretty good service, I'd say.

I'm sure you know this, but it came as a shock to me when I learned that you never know what you have when you start polishing cast aluminum. Especially Mopar cast aluminum. Sometimes what looked like a perfect piece ends up looking like Swiss cheese once you start polishing it,and the only way it can be saved is by filling the holes.

Nice!!

I'm guessing he quoted kind of a long turnaround time. At least when I dealt with him he was a one-man show with a day job. His mom answered the phone most times.

I was very satisfied in my dealings with him, and he delivered when he said he would.

Oops- just read the answer in your other post.

Nevermind :/
