casper50 Posted August 17, 2016 Author Report Posted August 17, 2016 I hate paying $97 to ship a $139 part. Part of living where I do I guess. Other things make up for it. Too bad Amazon doesn't carry the kit. Prime gets shipped for free. Quote

knuckleharley Posted August 18, 2016 Report Posted August 18, 2016 rather do it myself save $1000 and use it on the interior. With your obvious skill set it should be no trouble at all for you to do, You can even use some of the money you save on labor to use stainless and never have to do it again. Do they use salt on the roads in Alaska in cold weather? Quote
casper50 Posted August 25, 2016 Author Report Posted August 25, 2016 Finished the exhaust this morning. Photo shows it all welded and ready for paint. Video shows it installed. Estimates for a shop to make the dual exhaust for my 47 coupe ranged from $900 to $1400. I did it for $400 and had parts left over from the bend kit that I bought. First part shows the exhaust without the splash pans. Shop said that there was no way to keep it. Second part show that I was able to do the impossible I guess. Not a very good video but can't expect much for only 18" of clearance, holding a light in one hand and the camera in the other. lol 2 Quote
pflaming Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 That is a very clean installation. I always figure that if someone else can do it so can I. The qualifier: TOOLS! Quote
casper50 Posted August 25, 2016 Author Report Posted August 25, 2016 welder, sawzall, grinder and a couple of wrenches. Quote
pflaming Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 Aren't there some bending tools required, similar to brake and fuel lines? Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 Exhaust looks great. One suggestion, Threads on the clamps will be easier to remove if they are aimed to the bottom or sides. Aimed to the top will make removal (should you ever have to do so) very difficult. It has been my experience that removal is easier using an impact gun. Use a wrench on rusted clamps and they will break every time. Use an impact gun and they will not. Quote
casper50 Posted August 25, 2016 Author Report Posted August 25, 2016 nope. Just buy a kit with lots of bends http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Mild-Steel-Exhaust-Bend-Kit-2-1-2-Inch,36340.html?sku=91013824&utm_medium=CSEGoogle&utm_source=CSE&utm_campaign=CSEGOOGLE&gclid=CPeCyenL3c4CFUhcfgodugMOBg had 3 of the 180's and one 45 left over. 1 Quote
casper50 Posted August 26, 2016 Author Report Posted August 26, 2016 Started it up tonight. Now to get it timed correctly and sync the dual carbs. One step closer to driving it. Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 26, 2016 Report Posted August 26, 2016 Sounds good. Syncing the carburetors has nothing to do with mixture. It is a linkage/air flow adjustment. Special tool required. Once set requires no more adjustment unless everything is disassembled. Quote
1952B3b23 Posted August 26, 2016 Report Posted August 26, 2016 (edited) Looks great! Good job on the exhaust too. Did you buy two exhaust kits, one for each leg? -Chris Edited August 26, 2016 by 1952B3b23 Quote
casper50 Posted August 26, 2016 Author Report Posted August 26, 2016 Don I have that tool just taking it to someone that knows more than I do to do it right the first time instead of me messing with it for days. Chris I just bought the bend kit that I posted earlier, the two header collectors, and the two 25" cherry bombs. Quote
casper50 Posted August 29, 2016 Author Report Posted August 29, 2016 One step closer to driving. The dual carbs were dialed in today. Need to put a new coil, points and condenser in and it should run smooth 2 Quote

casper50 Posted September 30, 2016 Author Report Posted September 30, 2016 Left rear fender mounted tonight. The dark green welting goes nicely IMO. 2 Quote
casper50 Posted October 20, 2016 Author Report Posted October 20, 2016 I wasn't happy with the way that the body turned out after the first polish so I redid it. Looks much better. 1st photo is of the right rear, trunk and fender. 2nd is right rear of the trunk. 1 Quote
