bruce5310 Posted February 14, 2014 Report Posted February 14, 2014 I like the original wheels and caps on my 1937 Dodge, which of course, came with tubes. Can I run a modern (retro) tubeless tire on these rims? Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 14, 2014 Report Posted February 14, 2014 I am not sure what a modern retro tubeless tire is. Quote
Frank Elder Posted February 14, 2014 Report Posted February 14, 2014 A new radial tire that looks like an older tube using bias ply. Quote
bruce5310 Posted February 14, 2014 Author Report Posted February 14, 2014 I like the Coker wide whites. Quote
desoto1939 Posted February 14, 2014 Report Posted February 14, 2014 I think I would contact an expert on tires and tubes like Coker. They have alot of technical info about tires and tubes. Rich HArtung Quote
41/53dodges Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 As far as the rims go, many of us truck guys run tubeless on stock wheels. Sadly I'm not one yet, I need to save up for new tires to go on my nicer set of rims. But usually they just paint the rim up nicely and get a 2-piece valve stem. Got some pics of the wheels? Quote
Conroe Powdercoating Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 the shape of the hole in the rim is like a big diamond and doesnt seal well with regular valve stems, I have 2 on my car running tubeless and 2 with tubes, the tubeless ones leak down ever so slightly, I am thinking of yanking all four off, welding the diamonds up and then redrilling a round hole. wdoland Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Does anyone sell the older style valve stems? Quote
Don Coatney Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 Not sure what you are looking for. Older style is not very descriptive. Older than what? Oval hoes? What wheels? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 set of four on sale now for 7.20...... Quote
wdoland Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 Not looking for any hoes, Don. Conrow Powercoating was talking about diamond shaped holes in the rim. Does any one sell valve stems to fit these holes? Stock wheels. Quote
Don Coatney Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 You might check with a truck stop. I have heard they have a good assortment of valve stems. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 I have never seen an actual diamond shape hole in a stamped steel Plymouth including the artillery wheels. What I have seen on a few are enlongated holes, oval if you will. Could you have some that are rusted out and may lend an appearance to a diamond shape..OR a wheel from some other make and model?...please post an actual photo of the hole opening and the overall wheel for possible identification. By now you could have welded them up, smoothed the finish, drilled correct size hole for modern stem..blasted primed and painted the wheel..a move you may have to do yet.....oval valve stems however are easy to obtain... Quote
wdoland Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 I actually don't know what shape the stems are, but after reading this post I was wondering if I had the diamond shape that Conroe was talking about. I want to get radial tires soon and don't want to find out later that I need a weird kind of valve stem that are hard to find. Maybe mine ARE oval (1946) I will take a closer look tonight when I get home and see if I can tell. Quote
Desotodav Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 Try contacting someone at Schrader... http://www.schraderinternational.com/?sc_lang=en-US-E ... as they have been in the valve industry since mid 1800's. They might know something about diamond shaped valve stems. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 heck..even be possible we may know a bit about it if we were to see an actual picture of the wheels in question Quote
wdoland Posted March 18, 2014 Report Posted March 18, 2014 Car's getting a new windshield. Will get a photo in a few days. Quote
58prostreet Posted March 18, 2014 Report Posted March 18, 2014 I have oval valve stem holes in my '52 dodge rims. I got stems from patchboy.com. Yjey have a large selection of stems. Bob Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted March 19, 2014 Report Posted March 19, 2014 great...when the pictures hits the big screen I am sure you going to get the right answer... Quote
wdoland Posted March 22, 2014 Report Posted March 22, 2014 Here's the pics. They seem round to me. Does it look like tubes? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 looks to be the larger circular stem would fit that hole.. Quote
41/53dodges Posted March 28, 2014 Report Posted March 28, 2014 farm and fleet usually has 2 piece schraders to do this, check them out. It should be a brass thing with some rubber rings and a nut Quote
