Mike Petersen Posted February 6, 2014 Report Posted February 6, 2014 (edited) Headed out of town today for College baseball tournament. Found a guy in the area where I'm headed that has a complete R-10 minus harness and relay. Checked all #'s It is from a 52-53 Plymouth. I was curious how much work it is to change out the input shaft as it is not the correct one as I have Fluid Drive. Have no problems doing the work. I have been rebuilding Onan Gen. Sets. for 20 years. As well as anything else you could imagine on a RV. I do have the manuals. Headed out in a few hours. My ride is a 47 D24. Still collecting parts for assembly after paint work is done. Have also thought about going the route of installing a mopar automatic with the adapter upgrade. Just to make life easier for driving. I know it is not that bad to manual shift but the auto is for other family members. I have not driven this cad since High School. It sat in Dads garage 35 years untill he passed. Now is in my garage 1 year and torn down for restoration. It will be sons graduation gift when he gets out of College. The numbers on the plymouth trans. R10 G-1 W.G. DIV 1139152 R H Thanks Edited February 6, 2014 by Mike Petersen Quote
MarkAubuchon Posted February 6, 2014 Report Posted February 6, 2014 I would buy the r10, then decide if it can be converted. R10's are getting harder to find and if you decide not to use, you can easily sell it. good luck Quote
Robin (UK) Posted February 6, 2014 Report Posted February 6, 2014 I have a spare harness and kick-down for the R10. Please PM me if you're interested in these parts. Quote

DIV 1139152 R H Thanks Check out:50plymouth.com. Pete, a forum member has a section on "trans" in the site where he went the other way. r-10 g-1 for a fluild drive changed to a std. non fluild drive imput shaft. Great info. Buy the trans if under $500. Parts are worth more than that, cheaper the better! Good luck, Doug Quote
plyroadking Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) Everything should swap out, both have the same style of syncros. just split the case, drive the cluster gear shaft out to drop the gear enough to slide the short Plymouth input shaft and slap your fluid drive input shaft in. You dont need the "correct" harness to make it work, buy a '49 mercury overdrive kickdown switch at the local parts house for $20, buy an atleast 72 inch generic od cable on ebay and then find a ford explorer horn or fuel pump relay. Wire everything together correctly and enjoy, the ford relays are 12 volt but work just as good on 6 volts Edited February 7, 2014 by plyroadking Quote
Mike Petersen Posted February 7, 2014 Author Report Posted February 7, 2014 Thanks reached my destination. I have two of the fluid drive trans.bell housings, coupler etc. Will go check it out this weekend. He is asking $700.00. We will see. Quote
suntennis Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 Is there a reason why you can not just replace the bell housing with one from a standard shift transmission car? Perhaps if you did this your driveshaft may need to be altered. Quote
Mike Petersen Posted February 8, 2014 Author Report Posted February 8, 2014 (edited) Yes I have Thought about that too. Just geting parts. Edited February 8, 2014 by Mike Petersen Quote

pflaming Posted July 17, 2014 Report Posted July 17, 2014 It is interesting how many R 10's are suddenly showing uo. Nice find. I would put 4 crisp new bills on the hood and step back. First one who flinches loses. Good luck. I sold Mark D. An OD. When I took the bills to the bank the teller asked if I knew it was Monopoly money. Always recount the money. Lol. 1 Quote
Lloyd Posted July 17, 2014 Report Posted July 17, 2014 Thanks Robin, are we talking about an OD transmission or just the harness and kick down unit? Quote

Our greenbacks are all turning into Bluebacks! She handed me the cash at the credit union and I did a double take. It's not that often that I use $100-'s! Quote
