48Dodger Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 Hope you make it to the BBQ this year Jeff.....its a GREAT looking truck. And even if it wasn't, it would still be great to meet you. 48D 7th Annual Clements Tailgate BBQ Quote
ggdad1951 Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 I have a 1952 B3B with a standard cab and I still not sure what armrest hole spacing is for this vehicle. Is it 5 3/4 inches? the holes can be directly measured. I can measure mine over lunch, I'm 99% sure the B1/2 is different from the B3/4 Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted December 4, 2013 Author Report Posted December 4, 2013 I just checked....52 door has a hole spacing of 5 1/2" c-c. Thanks Tim; I plan on being there. Who know's? There are a few of us in the SoCal area......maybe we can arrange a convoy? Maybe Hank will be up for a remake of that classic trucking movie "They Drive by Night"? He can be George Raft. 101 to Salinas and then jog east..........whaddayasay Hank? Quote
HanksB3B Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 Hopefully, Truck or no truck I'm planning on it. Does AAA offer a 500 mile tow plan ? This is Googles "Bicycle Route" it's 444 miles As the hawk flies it's somewhat shorter. Hank Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted December 4, 2013 Author Report Posted December 4, 2013 Really? the 5? .....BORING. The 101 is much more vintage vehicle friendly.....and a heck of lot nicer drive. I'd bet there are probably some pilothouse trucks still hauling produce in the Salinas Valley. Hey wrong movie (I think).....and that's definitely not Ida Lupino either. Don't piss her off George...she wasn't good with rejection as I recall......bad stuff can happen. Jeff Quote

The 101 would be my fisrt choice as well but my top end is 45-50. I guess that is your reasoning for the night drive. I opt for the 101. Edited December 4, 2013 by HanksB3B Quote

Is there something wrong with your truck? After all of these things that you're fixing you should be able to run 60 easy. My guess is that you are babying your engine like Mark does. Quote

I am a bit surprised. Check it out sometime. I will admit I didn't look to closely at the route you posted. I am not keen on the grapevine as a test though. Got stuck in Gorman around that time of year once. 101 is cool for a variety of reasons. Lots of great places to pull off for a drive through the country or just take a break. Great camping or lodging. Then of course there is Tri-tip country.....etc.. When my youngest daughter was going to UC Santa Cruz it seemed like every trip we took we saw an awful lot of vintage vehicles heading places on the stretch between Solvang and Salinas. I kinda want to take my time and I may just take a week off and do some fishing or exploring along the way back. Jeff Quote

I'm hoping Davin will be coming and it would sure be nice to show him what California is all about. I haven't been fly fishing for years. I have a brand new 4 man REI tent and a beautiful back packers fly rod from Abecrobie and Fitch (NY circa 1966) before it tuned into a yupie wanna be camping store. I wouldn't do it without a caravan situation, Hank Quote

I wouldn't do it without a caravan situation, Hank That would be fun......and the caravan thing would be a gas. I haven't been there in years but Lopez Lake used to have decent fishing and had a good campground. I would be up for a couple of nights of that and some real Santa Maria BBQ. There is an awesome antique motorcycle museum in Solvang area too. There is almost too many cool things to do in that part of California. Could even come back via Monterrey and Big Sur. Greatest drive on the planet....and that time of year it isn't too hard to get a campsite in that stretch. Jeff Quote
