murfman1967 Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 Quick question... Do the LWB Desotos use the standard front suspension or the HD one like the 8 Cyl Chryslers? Are they 4.5" or 5.5" bolt pattern for the wheels? I found one for sale and would like to build a family truckster/vacation vehicle out of it (similar to what James_Douglas was talking about) and was just wondering about upgrading the front suspension like I did on my 53 Plymouth. I remember the 50 Chrysler I did with my dad and the front suspension pieces were all different than the 6 cyl cars. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 The 8 passenger LWB DeSoto's use the heavy eight cylinder suspension with the larger bolt pattern drums amd wheels. Quote
murfman1967 Posted October 28, 2013 Author Report Posted October 28, 2013 Thanks, that is what I assumed. Not a big deal, but it limits the rear axle swap possibilities. If I get the car, I will be looking for a Scout Dana 44 or an early bronco 9". Quote
greg g Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 Check with member james douglas as he runs one as is very familiar with its specifics. Quote
desoto1939 Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 I can also tell you that the 39 Desoto LWB uses different suspension components that the regular 6. The Dodge and Ply LWB fron suspension components fit the standard 6 Desoto suspension components. So you have to be very careful when buying suspension parts since the regular Dodge/Ply will NOT fit the Chrysler and Desoto front ends. Rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.com Quote
Frank Elder Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 ...........I would love one of these! Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 ...........I would love one of these! Agree! LWB Soto S11 cars are handsome boats. Also suburban with factory roof rack and tailgate would be more than welcome in my garage. Quote
