Ricky Luke Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 Evening all This is posted on Ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Hotrod-rat-rod-triple-carby-manifold-carbs-Chrysler-dodge-desoto-flathead-6cyl-/161128251154?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2583fdff12 I've asked ther question about centre to centre spacing to see if it will fit my Chrysler, but has anyone seen a manifold like this? I think the 3 carbs clustered in the middle isn't so good, and maybe blanking the middle carb seat and running two larger carbs may be better. Any thoughts? Cheers Rick Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 Are all the Mopar flatheads in OZ long block (25") engines? Quote
greg g Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 Yea, those carbs ar pretty close together, ad they don't seem to be Carters. I would block off the center and run it as duals. should still be plenty of carburation. Quote
Dave72dt Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 What's the possibility of them being a marine application? Quote
Daliant. Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 What's the possibility of them being a marine application? I was thinking the same thing, those carbs seem to sit at a pretty steep angle. Quote
Desotodav Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 Are all the Mopar flatheads in OZ long block (25") engines? Most of the engines that I have come across here have been the long blocks Don, but I did have a short block car engine recently which I sold to a friend. I stumbled across that same manifold on Ebay last night Ricky and wondered if it would fit 3 x Carter B&B's. Quote
Andydodge Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 Up to the late 40's most if not all Oz 6's were the 23", from the early 50's it seems that it was the other way around, mostly the 25" known here as the "Kew" engine, tho' the few 23" engines that were used up till the mid 50's also get that "Kew" name.........that's definitely a marine intake, the carbs are pointing the right way to allow for the angled drive in a boat, judging by the somewhat amateurish look of the intake I'd say its an Oz made intake, the carbs aren't any Holden Strombergs which are the common usage.....I'd be surprise if its to suit a 23" engine as the 25" seemed to be the engine mostly used in speedboats.......that reference to Holden intakes by the seller is in reference to the use of GM's Holden six aftermarket intakes being a approximate fit onto the mopar six and were used here in Oz with some modifications when the US sourced Offy, Fenton, etc intakes couldn't be found or afforded.......andyd Quote
knuckleharley Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 BTW,have any idea who manufactured that intake? I don't think I have ever seen one like it. Quote
Ricky Luke Posted October 22, 2013 Author Report Posted October 22, 2013 I think Andy's right about being home made - the seller came back to me and said it had no marking, and was 21 cm (bit over 8") centre to centre. I didn't ask who made the carbs... Still - $300??? There's a line out of an Australian movie "Tell him he's dreaming..." Rick Quote
