Buyers Advice On A 47 D24 2 Dr Sedan - Tell Me Tell Me...

Larry, sorry to keep you in suspense! I'm still on the fence. It's about 4 hours from me otherwise I'd be running over to look at it. I've been burned too many times by peoples opinion of what "GREAT CONDITION" is..... you know what I mean.

But here's what I have found out in talking to the owner.

he's only had it 3 years and only driven it the first 6 months of those three. He bought it from an older man that had given up on restoring it.

In those 3 years he did all the brakes, painted the engine and new tires. He's an older gentleman and sounds like he's not able to work on it as much not either.

Says he'll throw in a new battery and it should start right up and drive home...???

I also pressed him to look under the car and in the trunk for rust, says there is not a bit. No smoke, perfect interior and he'd come down only to 3k.

Also asked him if it was a custom or deluxe model because I couldn't see trim on the rear fenders but noticed the windshield trim is chrome..

He looked and said that one rear fender had holes and the other did not.???? replaced at some point I imagine. I dont think a 2 dr sedan was offered in a custom. just deluxe.

Also has the bumper off as he was going to have it rechromed but said it's not in bad shape. Also has the rocker trim NOS.

Tried to get as much info as I could as I dont want to show up surprised....

My biggest things are I dont want to spend TOO much more on it to the point it's not worth what I've got in it. ( I know, I know it's nearly impossible with an old vehicle, see olds photo above. Just dont want to hear I told you so from the boss lady :) )

will keep you all posted..

Tell the owner to bolt the bumper back on, and buy the new battery as you are coming to look at it. Carry the cash with you. If it passes your inspection and is road worthy offer the guy what you think it is worth. If he accepts your offer drive it home. If he says no then you walk away and dont look back.

When I bought my convertible, I put 100 dollar bills on the fender. As I approached the amount I was willing to pay I slowed down, way down. The purchase price was quite different than his asking price. I took nice crisp new ones. He knew then that I was serious.

Ferdball..........you are right re the Deluxe/Custom thing.......my Standard Catalog of Chrysler only lists 2drs in the Deluxe series with "dual electric wipers, pencil stripe seats and rear fender moldings" being the primary differentiation points that the Custom series had.......dunno if this helps.....lol.....regards, andyd

forgiveness ...for what.....can't follow you on that statement...

After 50 years I find it less stressful to play the game.  After all I am pretty lucky to have a woman that puts up with me and it's nice to have someone in the house on a chilly evening.  I don't really ask for forgiveness but,...I do say the words.  It works,...or at least she leads me to believe it works,.....for me

contrary to popular beliefs Paul thinking such a stereotype as that is same as me thinking the only way to separate the men from the boys in Calif. is with a crowbar..

I second this.

I agree that there is no accurate book value on any vehicle. But the books are created by averaging all available data and those averages are a good starting point.
