I have a question...

Will the drums off a 1941 Plymouth 4 door car, fit on the front of a 1954 Dodge Royal ?

I went to Kanter Automotive cross ref them, the numbers are the same but the suffix letter on the 41 is A the 54 B......

Will they fit? Will they work?? and what about the bearings?   Thank you for any input, I am tryin to help a fellow car guy out.

on a limb to some degree but I have found the difference between the early and late PLYMOUTH drums was the addition of an anti chatter spring of the later model year.  The 54 Royal will also need to be 10 inch brakes..as there are two Royal models..both V8....one larger frame and one with the smaller frame, the smaller frame car may have the 10 inch brakes whereas the larger could well be 11 inch..but the book here shows same braqke spec...some of the early Plymouth/Dodge did interchange as the Wayfarer was built on the smaller chassis..so maybe this still holds true...Kanter needs to send you specs for comparison.  HOWEVER as one more note, if the lining dimensions are of any help the 41 Plymouth is 5 inches (Plymouth 18 and the Dodge 23)  you could start you onw sheck sheet by measuring the drum you have on the 54

Thank you....

The dilemma is, he took the drums to the parts store. (same place he works) and they landed up getting scrapped.... So, I figured I would try and help this guy out, since I sold my Plymouth, but still have a bunch of stuff.... Stock uprights, springs, drums bearings backing plates and complete new brakes.... I also have a nose piece for a Kingsway.....

So he has had no luck finding the drum specs, so I figured you all at this forums are the gurus on this..... SO many thanks. I will ask if he has the big frame, and what size if he knows his drums are..... I wonder if the back would be any way of telling?

No. Hollanders Interchange manual is the bible for these questions and it says no.

I think the Dodge Royal are drums that use studs too.

Mine have studs..... Man I wish this guy was closer....

His backing plates are 12 inches, we are assuming his brakes are the 11. I am going to measure my brakes in the morning, I hate getting bit up by skeeters....

I think you will find the difference is the Plymouth drum is set up for lug bolts, where as the Dodge likely used studs and nuts.  The plymouth drums could always be set up with studs.
