pflaming Posted February 11, 2013 Report Posted February 11, 2013 I have three switches, can most locksmiths make keys for these old switches or should I just get a new one? If a new one where? It's cold this morning, heavy frost already and it's not dawn yet. Quote
Young Ed Posted February 11, 2013 Report Posted February 11, 2013 Paul if you aren't 100% concerned about being original this is probably a cheaper option http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?R=ECHKS6482_0182374056 Quote
52b3b Joe Posted February 11, 2013 Report Posted February 11, 2013 I went to a local locksmith for my door because no key came with the truck. They made me two keys for the lock and I paid $25. Quote
HanksB3B Posted February 11, 2013 Report Posted February 11, 2013 The trick is to have the locksmith "key-alike" both the door and the ignition switch, then you are styling...It does fall in the $25-$35 range. Hank Quote
pflaming Posted February 11, 2013 Author Report Posted February 11, 2013 How do I get the cylinder out of the passenger door? Quote
HanksB3B Posted February 11, 2013 Report Posted February 11, 2013 (edited) How do I get the cylinder out of the passenger door? That is the $64,000 question. There is a slotted (regular screw driver) set screw that is accessed from the side of the door. If and I say "IF" you are lucky enough to be able to remove it READ "rusted-in", "painted over" (filling the screw slot) and just plain filled with 60+ years of hardened dirt...You might get lucky. Unlike Minnesnowta vehicles our California trucks may have a chance of being less rusted. Before you set a tool to this set-screw (it's soft and strips easily) make sure you have made every effort possible to clean the slot and use the best type of de-rust penetrating oil you can. Be sure the screw driver you use matches the slot in width and thickness (Use that crazy grinding tool you have to grind the screwdriver into as perfect and tight a fit as you can) If you are lucky and can get that set screw removed the lock cylinder will slide out. After your lock smith has done his thing, Replace the slotted set screw with a Hex-Head and use some Anti-Sieze...then your truck should be good for another 60 years. 52b3b Joe Posted February 11, 2013 Report Posted February 11, 2013 If you cannot get the screw out, you'll have to carefully drill it out like what I ended up doing. Then I drilled and tapped it out for 1/4 28 thread and I used a Philips head screw. It worked out well but was tricky to get the drill centered on the screw to drill it out. Quote

ggdad1951 Posted February 11, 2013 Report Posted February 11, 2013 I ended up busting the screw keeper off mine off and going this route: http://mopar.pairserver.com/p15d24ph_forum/index.php?/topic/25219-door-lock-keeping-it-in-place/?hl=%2Bdoor+%2Block I'll NEVER have an issue removing the lock if I need to.
