48Dodger Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 Ok...I know we've switched to the AD format, and have gotten a bunch of cool options here.....but that "Download Play" ad bugs me. Makes me feel uncomfortable. What is it? Don't like being on my favorite site and having to feel like I have to avoid accidentally clicking somewhere. Just don't care for trick ads...ones that don't say who they are, or say " click here to...." etc. 48D Quote

Todd B Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 I agree, I made the foolish mistake of clicking on it and I cannot get rid of it, it keeps scanning my computer and shows up every where. I now have to pay someone to get rid of that crap. These losers that prey on guys like me should be hung by there nuts from a very high tree. I felt safe with the old site. Quote
HanksB3B Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 (edited) Actually, it's linked to the DMV and programmed to register the title of your trucks over to me! Hoohoohahaha... Hank P.S. Todd are you sure you can't get rid of the applet? I'm not sure what it's called but I'm sure if you contact our web master he'd have a handle on how to get rid of it. Like you, I too am very leery of downloading anything I'm not sure of. I hope it's a simple matter to resolve. Like the Open PDF reader being offered today we should ask our web support to always be sure any software offered includes an "Uninstaller". I'd be real careful when you see something like this: (pretty sure it's the same program by "Livid" program that the other "Download Now" button activated. One time at work I made the mistake of looking for a pirated software site called "crack.com"....boy was I surprised at the content and rapidly opening windows all over my screen. I think it was the only time I actually pulled the plug out of the wall to turn my computer off! Beware Edited February 10, 2013 by HanksB3B Quote
P15-D24 Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 The externally provided ads are a short term solution until I can recruit enough additional direct advertisers to replace them. Unfortunately it is a economic reality that expenses have risen with the site growth. The only option is going to a subscription model which will upset even more. The ad supplier, Bidvertiser, is a legit operation and if you have issues with an ad let me know via a support ticket. Ad content will become more automotive based over time as their search engine "learns" it is an automotive site. I have another ad supplier I want to try which I think will fit have a better content fit for the site but they are about a month out for having the correct ad formats. I'm also rolling out and campaign to potential direct advertisers like Butch's and hopefully I can get adequate response to drop the ad provided by services. Lastly, Hanks B3B advice is spot on. P15-D24 Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 Did you try removing it with Add/Remove programs in your control panel? Quote
HanksB3B Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 If you do a system restore to a time prior to the download it will disappear. It's also not a bad idea to create a restore point before you download even what you know to be legitimate updates to programs you already use like Adobe Quicktime even though it's from bona-fide software producers. You never know, Hank 1 Quote

Todd B Posted February 11, 2013 Report Posted February 11, 2013 I went in the add/remove part and removed any program installed on Feb 8. There was 4 different items that I removed. I hope this did it. I would be in favor of a yearly subscribtion. We all spend money on old truck magazines and don't get 1% of the help we get on this site. Could we take a poll to see who would be in favor of a subcription. Thanks to all who helped, Todd B Quote
