I was curious, I cleaned up the throttle linkage (the part that bolts on to the bell housing) and it looks like it was never painted.  Was that part origianlly painted or was it bare metal?  What have you all done with the linkage when restoring your trucks?  See the attached photo of the parts prior to cleaning

Mark(ggdad51) is my go to for this but I suspect it was cad plated.

CAD plated.  I'm VERY confident that most parts that were bolted on were all CAD plated and NOT painted.  When I tore FEF downit was pretty easy to tell which were CAD and which were paint.

It looks like it is plated, but it has a lot of rust.  There isn't anyone locally that does that kind of work.  Any suggestions where in CA I could send it?  Or should I just paint it with something like POR15 and a silver topcoat?

Easiest to paint it - silver to match the engine.

You could also just clean it up with some steel wool and CLR or Jasco prep n' prime, and clear coat it, or oil it. Old zinc/cad plating can be brought back to its original shine this way, however won't offer the same protection as when new.

They were unpainted. I paint mine with a color called cast iron. Looks unpainted but stops the rust. If yo check either the P15 or D24 Reference page their is a table with info on  engine paint info.
