TodFitch Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 Tire chains on the drive wheels, tire chains on the spare with snow shoes strapped on. Even before hitching up the horses it is evident that he was serious about "the mail must get through". Wheels and tires look like they might be the larger diameter option for rutted rural roads too. randroid Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 Frankie, Great pictures. I have friends in VT who mentioned today's high was expected to get all the way up to 2 degrees and those pictures fit right in. I particularly enjoyed seeing the pioneer style snow shoes tired to the spare tire because you know they took winter seriously. -Randy Quote
greg g Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 Front tires look like the military style knobbies that Chris Bamford used to take his trip north. Quote

It'll probably be about that cold at my place by morning but I'm in the extreme southern part of the state. the "Banana Belt." Sounds like your friends are up north a way. Frankieflathead, The car was a former stock car and was painted silver with black fenders. We were never able to get it to run as I was only 12 years old at the time with really limited mechanical skills. I actually only had it for about 6 months when the guy who had raced it wanted it back to race again. He had sold it when he went to Korea. He swapped it from me for a '37 Packard rumble seat coupe. Ah, if I only had some of the gems now that I had in the past. John R Quote
