Hi Guy's;

There is a site that features Chrysler Dash Knobs and cables......was wondering if any of you had purchased from them and if so how was the quality of the product? I am starting to gather the items I need to complete the controls for my project and like the idea of using new control cables throughout. Since I am adding some options like "Fresh Air" it might be good to have all the knobs match..... if they look close to the originals? I might even try to engineer a cable operated hood latch/lock.

Thanks in advance, Jeff

If anyone knows if their cables would be right for our trucks, that'd be HUGE! If not, I'll drop them a note here soon! I need 2 cables 58"+ long!

Surely somebody here has bought from this source. Maybe some of the car guys? What I would really like to know is if they come with or can supply the mounting ferrule & nut.......and will it fit our trucks?

I'll be a the guinea pig on these! I spoke with the guy and he seems nice, and seems to know the knobs for our trucks. If you look on the website it says he has a 1950 Truck (I'm assuming a Dodge as he has all mopar knobs), so I'm guessing the knobs will be fairly close to original. I am ordering all 4 knobs and I am getting a blank one for the glove box door. I have no idea how long it takes him to make and ship them so I'll post back when I get them.

I can't afford to spend $50 for a NOS on ebay each for all of them, so $15 a piece sounds pretty good even if they are slightly different from originals.

No clue, all I know is that all the cables come from this guy 6' long, so 72"...that should work for what you're looking for. As far as me, I went to a local auto parts store and bought cables, then just cut them to length and re-threaded everything so my knobs and feral nuts all fit them. It wasn't too hard, a couple evenings in time. I don't think you'd be able to really pick them out as not being original. They look very nice and new compared to my original one I have even after I cleaned it up some.

Since you're the guinea pig, post some pics of the cables (sans knobs) when you get 'em....curious to know what the control end looks like and how it might work in our trucks. It doesn't appear the knobs they have are that close to our originals...but their website images aren't that detailed either.

Thanks,

did the cables you bought have the key so the knobs stay oriented? Did they have the proper oblong for the dash interface?

No, I didn't take any. They originally had a T handle that was sodered on, so I heated them up and pulled the handles off. Then I ran 8/32 threads down the stem where the T handle came off for the knob to screw on. The only problem I have (and will fix) is that I didn't put a flat spot on the end for the knob center to stay positioned horizontally. I got lucky in the case of the feral nut because that thread was the same. From there I cut the cables to length.

def let us know about the cables, I e-mailed them questions and didn't really get much more of a response than "check out the website"...

I only ordered knobs. He told me that they should be done the end of this up coming week so when I get them I'll post pictures of them. I can't speak for the cables but if I had to guess, I'd say the ferrules are not identical to stock. Call and talk to him, he seems like an ok guy. He said call between 9am and 5pm his time. He lives in Wisconsin.

Well, I received the knobs today, and.............not what I was hoping to see.......

I was the guinea pig indeed!  :eek:  If you are looking for something to use and are not worried about original appearance then sure, go ahead. The font is right and diameter is good, but overall nothing like originals. For the money and convenience they are OK for what they are.

With this being said, I think I will stick with my originals knobs after a stab at repainting the black faces and getting fresh white paint for the lettering.

The guy is nice and easy to deal with, but like I said, not what I was expecting. Nothing bad to say about the knobs or company.

Take a look....

Joe;

Sorry about that  :( .......and here I was thinking I had made some great find for the gang. Not sure what to say about those. I wonder if they match some of the Chrysler car knobs ? One thing is for sure there is no point in even asking if the cable ferrules match up to the originals.

Bummer. I was all set to order these and be done with this.........

Its a good thing you waited! Oh, well there's only one way to find out bout' stuff like this, and that's try it. My hopes were up too.

I think I'll guinea pig for the group for the cables....I need two LONG ones

Have you tried a local auto parts store? That's where I found my truck's. I have bought an extremely long cable from a local tractor supply too. On the tractor it is probably 6' long after I cut it down for the mag shut off.

No, but when you attach the other end, it doesn't let it turn much. I know its not 100% right, but I will just straighten them if need be when I get to a show.
