just a quick look (maybe less than 1 minute) using 4 Seasons as a search (largest maker of replacment valves)...go to to the big box store, ask for the 4 season catalog..you can do better than the price and old rubber that will probably fail out of the box..

I am a bit curious on why you posted this auction here? Are you the seller?

In case someone (like me) wanted a very rare part for their truck ????? :rolleyes:

No, I'm not the seller. If I was, I'd list it in the 'for sale' section where it should be.

Well lots of people give a "heads-up" on eBay stuff they browse. I'm guessing the die cast model thread linked to eBay are not from the manufacturer. I guess it could be considered unethical to list your own stuff anywhere other than the "For Sale" section. If everybody did it, browsing our forum would be like sorting through junk mail I guess.

This is just my opinion. If a live auction is posted on the open forum it could and most likely will do nothing to help the buyer. But it will help the seller and may result in a bidding war.

It is likely that others who are looking for this item have already found it and may have submitted a sniper bid in anticipation of getting the item at the lowest cost.

In my opinion if you see an item that might be of interst to a friend it is better to notify the friend via a PM or an e-mail as opposed to posting the live auction on any public forum. The fewer folks who know about the auction the lower the price will be. But as I said this is just my opinion.

Keven;

This type of heads up has always been very helpful to me.

Definitely more help than harm. I work full time and don't always have time to keep a brest of things on Ebay, etc....

My substitute (Land Rover) HCV should be in by now. I will have to walk down and pick it up. I will let you know what I think about it once I have had a chance to look it over.

I think it's definitely more good than harm However I also agree with Don's reply especially the part of helping a friend out, then it is better to PM rather than post the item in a public auction (for the reason's Don gave). If you do have parts you would like to sell on the P15-D24 then I guess listing the item in the "For Sale" thread with a fixed price or a best offer would seem fair. By knowing a fair value, it's a win-win.

Jeff,

If that valve is an option for other members, it might not hurt to start a thread about it.

And, you're welcome.

I guess I could send a group PM to the entire truck forum about what I find on e-Bay? :o:)

Hey Hank;

I have been under the impression that we were all friends here. :D

Nothing has ever happened that would indicate otherwise as far as I am concerned. We all have slightly different perspectives and that is what makes this forum truly interesting.

Thanks for the post Kevin,I also like when someone lets me know if there is something I would be interested in.

Either it be on e-bay or craigslist or some other internet source.

But the Evilbay---Fleabay as a lot of people call it,can stir up some very very deep emotions with collectors.

But my view on it is that I have over 4,000 E-bay feedbacks--sales from mostly selling vintage motorcycle parts both dirt and street.You would not believe what I have done to get parts to sell,I have traveled up 1500 mile round trips just to dig through piles of crap.It has very much been just like you see on American Pickers.But it is fun and all of the stuff I have sold more than likley would have rotted away and sent to the scrap yard and no one would have gotten it.I have found some real jewels and have done very well on them.

I would never try to hype any of my items on any of this forums,I think it is way wrong!! I sell a lot of stuff,a lot of times people never even know I sell on e-bay till sometime they actually buy something from me.

I just never understand why some people get so angry when something someone has found in a junk pile or saved for many years sell for big $$$ in some remote part of the country and they live 1000 miles away and if not for the glory of the internet and E-bay they would have never even seen the part or had a chance.

Just my 2-cents didn,t mean to ruffle any feathers.

Something I said ? What ? You do agree that randomly creating a new thread to inform members that an item is up for auction will inevitably make the price go up right?

The way I got my first 610-T radio for $76 was that someone :D awesome PM'd me (I may have been the only bidder) . Another one (with multiple bidders) went for $961 and trust me (I'd been looking for 29 years) I wanted it even at that price. (I know... your paint job won't even cost that much, and who listens to AM radio anyway?)

There is that different perspective I was talking about. It all depends on where you are coming from. While I prefer getting the things I need to finish my truck from my friends here......reality dictates that I have to keep an eye on other "electronic" sources.

Here in my SoCal there are no Pilothouse trucks in the pick-a-part yards and I don't have the real estate to store a field of parts trucks. So Ebay and Craigslist are useful and viable sources if I want to continue to make progress. And I do. I have made a couple of decent buys off ebay recently.....a very usable hood ornament for $40 and a NOS Headlight switch in the original box for $13. Both "Buy it Now" items and I was happy to get them. I watch the auction items but generally avoid those by choice.

My 95% complete & original (but not running)truck was a Craigslist find. I also found some near perfect corner windows there for $75 which I am pleased with. What we pay for things is up to us. We have all seen things go for silly prices but there are still some decent buys out there. And since I generally work 6 days a week this is how I have to go looking. The bottom line for me is that I must continue to make progress towards completion. So I go with whatever works within the money and time I have to work with.

Hank;

This has been an extremely friendly forum. And I was trying to be funny with my comment. I am sorry if I tease you too much.......it is just my way. If I didn't like you I would not even bother with a response.Trust me it is all in fun.

I don't agree with you in this instance as this was not an auction item. It was a " Buy it Now" with a fixed price. Keven knows that there are probably several people looking for this item and he being a very helpful guy put up a "heads up". I for one applaud him for taking the time to do so. If I were concerned with being absolutely original down to the last little detail I probably would have jumped on it myself.

Here is where a different perspective comes into play. This truck that I am building will be the last vehicle I own. In order to pay bills and keep my business I had to sell my old truck back in 2008. So until I get this old beast back on the road I am doing without.

Don't worry I'll continue to take it and give it back if if gets too rough. I took it as "being funny". More on topic, I'm curious as to how your HCV valve works out. I'm o.k. with listing a Buy-It-Now any old place on the forum I guess. I don't make the rules anyway.

Mine came in the mail today. Nice piece. Smooth movement. Almost looks like it can be rebuilt.

Anyone here buy the other one he had for sale? :)

Nah already had a few on hand.....

I bought 4-5 of these on ebay a while back and so far they either leak or are so stiff the cable won't operate them properly. Someone did mention they are the same or similar to early corvette valves and that rebuild kits are available. Of course being for a corvette they were expensive. http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=31253&highlight=corvette+heater

Ya, that's Don. He live up the road from me.

Wish I'd known you had so many. I'd have bought one and rebuilt it. :D
