RobertKB Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 Thanks for posting that picture. It is great! It also reminds us that our old cars were once everyday drivers and are lucky to have survived. Quote
frankieflathead Posted December 22, 2012 Author Report Posted December 22, 2012 (edited) You're welcome, Bob. Date on the pic is 1940, so none of the cars in it are exactly brand new, but some are newer than others. Witness that old sedan in the center right distance. It can't be any newer than the mid-twenties and yet there it is, right downtown in the middle of a blizzard! Edited December 22, 2012 by frankieflathead Quote
55 Fargo Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 Love the pic, and yes in 1940, cars were used longer, and less new ones bought just after the depression, and the beginning of WW2. Where is this town??? Quote
frankieflathead Posted December 22, 2012 Author Report Posted December 22, 2012 They were also driven for fewer miles per year in the days before the Interstate Highway System. In those days, you might recall, if you planned to take a long trip, you often rode the train. It's Brattleboro, Vermont. Quote

pflaming Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 I put your picture on my screen saver, WOW! Thank you. Merry Christmas. Quote
frankieflathead Posted December 22, 2012 Author Report Posted December 22, 2012 (edited) Sure. Eezy peezy, Greg. Here's a pic I've had in my files since November of 2010. Not exactly the same angle, but I think you can pick up enough landmarks to see that not that much has changed on Main Street in Brattleboro, Vermont in 70 years. Cheers!
