Hello, long time lurker, new member.

I'm the proud owner of a 1941 Dodge Kingsway D20 four-door sedan, the Canadian Plymouth-disguised-as-a-Dodge deal. Other than the brakes, which I've been having rebuilt piecemeal over the past summer, and the paint, which was redone in the original "Regal Maroon" sometime in the '80s, it's all-original, and I intend to keep it that way. I drive it regularly except when there's snow and salt on the roads, and it hasn't let me down.

However, it's time to replace the clutch -- going on 92,000 miles and it's getting very slippy. So far everything I've had to replace on this car as part of ongoing maintenance has been interchangeable with the Plymouth P-11, but I'm not sure about the clutch. It's a standard 3-speed transmission, no Fluid Drive, but the engine is the Canadian long-block. My question: can anyone confirm positively for me that the clutch parts I'll need are the same as used on the P-11? I have a shop manual, but it doesn't include definitive information on this point.

Thanx!

Nice car. Welcome. As far as I know, these cars useed 2 clutches. A nine and a half in. And a 10 in. Conventional wisdom suggestss that the larger were fitted to taxis, and other hd applications like station wagons.

Are you satisfied that all possible adjustment has been applied to the linkage?

A possible source for clutch replacement is Tennessee Clutch. I, and several other forum members have sent the clutch and pressure plate to them for refurbuishment. Fair price and a quick turn-around.

Thanx -- I'll check them out. I have an arrangement with the local garage where I get them the parts and they'll do the work, so when they pull the old parts I'll see if they look rebuildable.

I had them tighten up the linkage when they were last working on the brakes about a month ago, but yesterday I was straining to get up a hill I used to be able to make without a problem, so it definitely feels like there's work that needs to be done. No smell, and no disturbing noises, just the general feeling of "replace the clutch already!"

Having it refurbished is a good suggestion...

In answer to your question, is it the same? - yes.The part # is 866039

There were three clutchs used 9 1/2, 10 and 11. The 11 was used for the taxi's. The 9 1/2 more for the plymoyth anbd the 10 for regula such as Chr, Dodge and desoto.

My 39 Desoto uses the 10 inch clutch.

I thought it was a 9-1/4" not a 9-1/2" clutch.

Yes you are correct it is 9 1/4 and not the 9 1/2 inch clutch . My mistake I was trying to go from memory.
