Young Ed Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 I picked up this setup out of a 46-48 Chrysler today. Side by side looks pretty close. Hard to measure as I'm not sure at what angles each sit at when parked and what angle they turn to when running. Really wish I had a section of P15 cowling to experiment with. Much easier than trying to do it in the car! Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 The bodies between the four Chrysler products are pretty much exactly the same, particularly for hardware mountings and such. I.e. D24 Deluxe came with vacuum wipers (electric were optional), and D24 Custom came with electric, so it stands to reason electric and vacuum wiper set-ups were interchangeable. I'd have to get a sanity check here, but electric wipers may have been an option on P15s, too. In other words, that electric wiper set-up from the same model year Chrysler should bolt right in to your P15. You'll just have to figure out the wiring. Quote
falconvan Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 Let me know how it goes, Ed. I bought that same set up off of Ebay for my 48 but havent got to that point yet. Quote
Young Ed Posted September 11, 2012 Author Report Posted September 11, 2012 Might be a while. I've got to test these to make sure they are good. It was quite the procedure to get them out of the Chrysler with the dual heaters and fresh air intake system. I have that same system on my plymouth. In the junkyard I had to pull the radio and cowl vent system all apart. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 Ed, did you find any previous threads on wipers to review? Seems like people have said it's not easy to do electric on the P15. But I'm interested to see how it goes. Quote

james curl Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 I used an after market kit made for P-15s by NewPort Engineering. The installation was straight forward, bolted into the same place as the original and is two speed . Quote

I'm in the process of fitting a vintique 40 ford wiper assy into my 40 ply...the bracket is way off but I have the measurements needed for making a new bracket...just have to make sure the whole thing clears the cowl vent door linkage. Hey, it was only $124 for it...I can fab a new bracket for a new 2 speed self parking system! Quote
Jim Benjaminson Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 40 Dodge had electric wipers - 40 Plymouth didn't. But with the similarities in the bodies a swap from another Chrysler product shouldn't be all that hard. I located a 40 Dodge in a boneyard this summer but haven't gotten the wipers out of it yet to "know for sure"... Quote
hkestes41 Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 I wussed out like James and bought the Newport assembly. Had the vacumn wipers out the Newports in and driving in under two hours. I will leave the fabbin, fittin and cussin to the rest of you. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 I wonder if the Newports will work on a P15 convertible......as the wiper towers on the outside are different (tall, chrome) and the actual vacuum wiper motor is slightly smaller than the rest. Quote

Down under Plymouths were electric, they were cowl mounted and used a Bosch motor similar to a VW beetle. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 my P15 is two speed electric with intermittant control now...look close for the motor and mechanism... Quote
