Frank Elder Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 I am sure someone has the correct answer for this..... What is the difference in sizes of a p-15 rear fender and a d-24 rear fender, I have always wondered if they interchange or are they only similar in shape. Light hearted or frivolous answers accepted here.....I will turn no one away. Quote
47PLYMOUTH HOODLUM Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 I'd like to know too! I could've sworn on here, there is an interchange thread. Pretty sure, someone will chime in with a link or answers!! Quote
desoto1939 Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 According to my Hollendar Interchnage manual these rear fenders are different numbers and do not interchange. The bolt patterns might be the same and also the indent for any running boards might be the same, but the big difference will be the taillight assembly and also the holes for the rear bumper brackets. I am not an expert on these models so I am just commenting based on the Hollander book. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com Quote
Frank Elder Posted August 17, 2012 Author Report Posted August 17, 2012 Thanks Rich, fyi the tail lites bolt to the body not the fenders...I was wondering if the size difference was enough to make them look different shaped or not. Quote
1flipdog Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 I know of one guy that put p-15 rear fenders on a D24 and said the reason he did it was because the P-15 fenders were wider. Don't know if the bolts lined up or not but do know it was done. Quote
Daliant. Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 The differences between the Dodge and Plymouth fenders are slight but enough to make them non-interchangable, I'm sure with a little cutting and welding a good body man can make them work though. Here's a side-by-side of a Dodge fender and a Plymouth fender, Dodge is on the left- note the slightly larger size of the Dodge fender twards the rear Here's the inside of the dodge fender- note the 5 holes for the trim above the wheel opening (a little hard to see with the bondo poking through) and the hole twards the back for the bumper Here's the Dodge and Plymouth fenders together (Plymouth is in front) most of the mounting holes don't line up and the plymouth fender swoops down a little more than the dodge in the rear. Frank Elder Posted August 17, 2012 Author Report Posted August 17, 2012 Thank you 1flipdog and daliant both of you gave very helpful information! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 18, 2012 Report Posted August 18, 2012 anyone up for a rumble seat coupe..here is a P15 sedan deck lid setting into the opening of the P15 bz cp....little work and you could have a heck of a one-off build..I set this here to 'visit' the curve of the two deck lids to the lower body..while the curve is approx..the design of weather strip between the two bodies are very different..other areas of major concern also prevent just a mix and match of metal.. Hey, Tim, which one of the two lovelies will sit back there? This could cause serious trouble!! LOL Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 18, 2012 Report Posted August 18, 2012 being a business copupe with buckets being installed, the coin toss will be made prior to leaving home..only two seats..only two shoulder harnesses..and 'yes' I was just joking about the rumble seat.. Quote
RobertKB Posted August 18, 2012 Report Posted August 18, 2012 ..and 'yes' I was just joking about the rumble seat.. I know but bench seats have their advantages.......you can snuggle closer or sit three across, maybe you in the middle! LOL Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 18, 2012 Report Posted August 18, 2012 driving is serious business...lol I am not that fond of a seat bench but when it is the only seat in the car I can forgivve it.....single seat is one of the reasons I never cared much for trucks..buckets I do like..but even buckets in a truck is not enough to sway me to a vehicle that has its payload exposed..now buckets and a console is a plus..for me it adds an air of sportiness to the ride...the sport Dakota donor has yielded a lot of componets for this project..it is a personalized car from start to finish... 46Ply Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 (edited) Let me ask this question. And I'm sure it's been asked before, but I can't find it. Does all body styles of 46 7 8 P15 rear fenders interchange. ie: for instance, can I put two or four door fenders on a club coupe? Edited March 20, 2015 by 46Ply Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 21, 2015 Report Posted March 21, 2015 Yes. Far as I know........both front and rear fenders will interchange among all the P15s. Trunk lids......not so much. Hoods yes. Most stainless trim, but some pieces are model style specific. Quote
46Ply Posted March 21, 2015 Report Posted March 21, 2015 Thanks Bob, I found the same information after my post in the Mopar Body and Sheet Metal Quick Reference list. The part numbers in case anyone is interested are 1148 953 right side and 1148 954 left side. This is 46 47 48 Plymouth only. None of the other Chrysler products will fit. Quote
