pflaming Posted July 30, 2012 Report Posted July 30, 2012 (edited) I just attached my 'new' rear bumper. I had to heat and spread the mounting arms but all is attached. I will reweld the angled braces and cut off that shin knocking hitch. More work than I thought it would be, but it's and I'm pleased. I think it's an OE bumper. A SPECIAL THANKYOU to the source of this bumper. Edited July 30, 2012 by pflaming Quote
Young Ed Posted July 30, 2012 Report Posted July 30, 2012 Looks similar but the curve isn't quite right for OE and the brackets didnt look like that either. Quote
HanksB3B Posted July 30, 2012 Report Posted July 30, 2012 Once you get it on, I wonder if anyone will come up to you and say "That doesn't look like the original bumper." Looks as close as you could get, in fact I'm not sure if you cut and shaped it you couldn't match the original it looks so close. Hank Quote
pflaming Posted July 30, 2012 Author Report Posted July 30, 2012 I'm not pushing for authenticity, but it's always nice to know what is and what isn't. I don't know if it is OE. There was concrete crusted on the back side, so I'm guessing it may have been on a brick layers truck. It appears the angles and the far outside piece may have been added for more strength and for side to side stability. Whatever, it's on and for me it's cool. Quote
catfishcuz Posted July 30, 2012 Report Posted July 30, 2012 what do you think about this one is it OE? Thanks Butch Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 30, 2012 Report Posted July 30, 2012 I was going to answer poainted, chrome, rusty, dented, peeling, mangled...etc I have a later model Dodge 58 with the wrap around step bumper that the rear of the fenders bolt to ..one of the earlier application of this style..it is hard to beat just a simple plain Jane bumper like you have pictured.. pflaming Posted July 30, 2012 Author Report Posted July 30, 2012 Tim, mine will definitely not be a "Plain Jane" because I'm going to paint 'old glory' on mine! Quote

townwagon Posted July 31, 2012 Report Posted July 31, 2012 (edited) That looks a lot like a 1948-50 panel truck rear bumper to me. See the linked picture. http://www.collectorcarsforsale.com/images/extended/110896557856/3.jpg Those are harder to find than the pickup ones as there were fewer panels made. Looks nice on your truck. pflaming Posted August 19, 2012 Author Report Posted August 19, 2012 I got frustrated with my lights when the battery went dead, so I worked on the rear bumper. I'm pleased with it. Not perfect, but it has character and experience which I like. Quote
