Sadly I missed out on the Minesota show but did see a few along the way friday on our way up to Mt Rushmore while on 90.

Now here's a plate that you don't see too often in the states, got out of the car at our hotel and nearly fell over when I saw it- now that would be a long wet, drive!

When parking to see Mt Rushmore I spied these ford coupes from California...one had just left so I got these 3 - all SBC engines.

The Buuuick is sharp...if I was ever forced by gun to head to buy GM..it would be a Buuuick..I think it just has a better build and service record overall of the GM lineup..but so far we have freedom of choice...lol

I think it was rapid city where we ate at the firehouse pizza and pub...only because we saw at least 7 of these fire trucks along the way by thier road signs, might be why the prices seemed a tad high due to paying for all those fire trucks. This was the only one I could get a good pic of since we were at a rest stop at the time...the driving shots were blurred.

Did see a 57 new yorker on a trailer but we came up on it right as we were heading into a rest stop and I didn't get a shot of her...dang it!

I liked it too...sadly she doesn't sport the straight 8 any more according to the owner - he went V8 for better speed.

the very wheels screamed modification and would be surprised more not to see a modern V8..but other than the wheels, possibly exhaust as we don't see the rear view, he has chosen to keep the original outward appearance of the car..cleans and simple in design and trim, that is always a plus..

Tim, I would question a flathead powered car going up and around the hills of Rushmore...I'm sure it could be done, but not very quickly I'd bet, at least not without some kind of added boost. The wife had the throttle of her mini van{'01 T/C- 3.8L V6} roughly 3/4 to the floor to keep it moving decently up the hills.

That's a bet you would win!

what...no Dagmires....you need a time out ...

When I think of those it comes quickly to early caddies and 57 chevies...though there are far more out there as well....I just happen to be in a fat fender mood simply because of the '40 sitting in my garage...:D...current car personal preferences can greatly influence one's views ya know!

We were there in 2000 and I don't recall either Dads 51 or Moms 97 olds 88 having any trouble around the hills. That was the first big trip we took with the 51 so it had a freshly rebuilt flathead in it. Thats also why the olds was with. After that no more modern cars on our tours.

My brother and I drove a 48 P-15 convertible to the 2000 POC meet in Rapid City SD. We met 4 cars from the east coast and took several days driving from Michigan. We drove to Mt Rushmore and the car never had any trouble with hills. It had a stock engine with a 3 speed overdrive transmission. JohnS
