claybill Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 i have a BEAUTIFUL PLY CONVERTIBLE WITH DUAL CARBS, CAST HEADERS AND FINNED FENTON HEAD. CAR RUNS so smooth I AM AFRAID TO TOUCH OR CHange anything. BUT IT IS UP FOR SALE ! Several callers balk at the added stuff. It looks cool, cost a bundle and runs like a champ. However ......should i take that stuff off ($2000) and install original, or hold on for the right buyer.? each week i am tempted to take it off.....then i dont....? bill Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 why mess with prosperity..someone should come along with a penchant for those amenities... considering the time and trouble to replace the original parts.!!! now if down the road you wish to do this to another flattie then and only then should you consider removing the speed/dress stuff and sell this car as close to stock as possible..anyway..that is my opinion..and how I would look at the overall situation..I would figure a couple visits to a cruise ins with a FOR SALE sign would give you valuable face time and get the word on the street to your local area..most all folks like to see an engine dressed up... Andydodge Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 Bill, I'd leave them on it, however do you have the original Parts?.......if so then I'd make sure they were listed & included, it also might be worthwhile restoring/ tidying them up and making that known in the sale also..........andyd Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 Let em bite it. There are people who wait their whole life for a set up like that, let them ride bikes. Advertize outside of the box so someone that really likes it can get it. Quote
40P10touring sedan Posted June 21, 2012 Report Posted June 21, 2012 I'd add my 2 cents...if they want the oem stuff then "add" that in for extra...just try and get where they're going to try and unload the aftermarket things for us. Quote
claybill Posted June 21, 2012 Author Report Posted June 21, 2012 ok....i sandblasted stock manifolds today..i'll include them with sale.. painting them and head tomorrow..silver.! i take it to local cruise ins. we have one a week, or more. thanks for the support Lads.! (i love that Lad bit, after a vacation in ireland last year. ) bill Quote
Andydodge Posted June 21, 2012 Report Posted June 21, 2012 Bill make sure to mention how easy it would be to return to bog stock, if wanted in any of the adverts you run or attach to the car.........personally I'd want the hop up parts, I'd feel that they would only add to the allure.......lol...........now thats the word to use........lol................andyd Quote
drillmastertommy Posted June 21, 2012 Report Posted June 21, 2012 I struggle to believe anybody seriously interested in buying this car would walk away because it has a selection of hugely desirable parts on the engine????? Half a brain can work out that even if you don't want those parts you can change them out for original stuff, sell em and pocket some change! Over the small amount of classic cars I've sold, I've been stunned at the amount of people who just wanted to waste my time. If you have the original stuff then mention it in your ad but like I said, serious buyers wouldn't be put off. Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted June 21, 2012 Report Posted June 21, 2012 Whenever I look to buy a "modified" car, I generally don't mind the additional stuff, as long as the seller still has the original parts and includes them in the deal. I've passed things up because the owner DIDN'T have the original parts available - so on my part, I'd agree with leaving your car as is, and just making the original parts available - maybe even charge extra for them. claybill Posted June 21, 2012 Author Report Posted June 21, 2012 ......i had 2 callers say that they werent interested any further. i am sure the other 5-6 would be happy with the stuff but were just out feelin' and kickin' plans around...as we all do from time to time.. bill allure..! i like it. 40P10touring sedan Posted June 21, 2012 Report Posted June 21, 2012 ......i had 2 callers say that they werent interested any further. When it comes to cars there's basicly two types- perfect stock or modifiers. One can't make everyone happy with your car...cept you! You'll find someone... Quote
greg g Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 Have you adveertised that the engine is period modified with vintage equipment, then listed the changes. I mean its not like it has a chevy engine in it. Tell the people thay can make an additional 800 to 1K by selling the stuff after they return it to stock with the parts you will throw in for 300 bucks. Quote
hkestes41 Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 Claybill, Have you advertised your car on the HAMB? I think you would get some good traction over there. Lets face it there are thousands of members on that site and they like modified. Quote
