Jeepnjay Posted May 30, 2012 Report Posted May 30, 2012 (edited) Hey guys, I'm Jay. I have been reading thisforum for a few years and just realized i have never posted. So I figured I would start with an intro. I am 30, been into antique cars my whole life, started driving a 26 Ford Model T when I was 12, been hooked ever since. My father in law got me into Model A fords, but he had an old plymouth from a deceased friend sitting in the barn. My wife loved thelines and styling so he gave it to he for her birthday Last year, and now we are working on restoring it. My wife wants it to be her daily driver, stating June 2013!!!!! So here I am soaking up as much knowledge from you guys as I delve into this project. Edited May 30, 2012 by Jeepnjay Quote
Mark D Posted May 30, 2012 Report Posted May 30, 2012 Nice story Jay! Welcome to the "club". Take your wife over to Jay Maine and show her that '47 Dodge I posted. Then you both can be driving a mopar. Quote
Jeepnjay Posted May 30, 2012 Author Report Posted May 30, 2012 Oh! Thanks Ed, I forgot to mention, It's a 46 Special Deluxe 4 door Sedan. ptwothree Posted May 30, 2012 Report Posted May 30, 2012 Welcome aboard....you picked a great place to soak! The use of the search engine should answer a lot of questions regarding these cars. Have fun! Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 30, 2012 Report Posted May 30, 2012 Welcome.................and what twothree said...........there have been many prior discussions about floors and rockers. You should be able to pull up at least part of it for review. Sounds like your wife is a bit more adventuresome than some......wanting to drive a P15 daily. Good for her. Quote
pflaming Posted May 30, 2012 Report Posted May 30, 2012 Bob, she's a Mainer! She doesn't question everything like "others". Quote
thrashingcows Posted May 30, 2012 Report Posted May 30, 2012 Hey Welcome! You have your self a good woman there if she's willing to drive an old Plymouth as her daily driver!! I've been trying to convince my wife to do this for years...just not enough creature comforts for her liking though... Quote
Jeepnjay Posted May 30, 2012 Author Report Posted May 30, 2012 Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I have used the search function quite extensively. As for the floor and rockers, They are a non issue as I am a welder/fabricator. the rest is making a few changes for her comfort such as a more modern interior (original seats and frames are trashed), power steering and disk brakes front and rear and explorer rearend like yourpc48 has done. I am very familiar with adapting parts to different vehicles! Last lear I swapped my worn powerstroke for a cummins in my F350, without buying any of the adapter kits:) As for my wife, I feel very lucky I married my best friend. We have been together 14 years and married 10 on June 8th. She and I have a lot of fun together, and she will be helping a lot on the plymouth. We have 2 girls ages 6 & 8 and are looking forward to using the Plymouth as a family car. Jay Quote

Young Ed Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 Dad will have owned his 51 plymouth convertible 46 years on 6-8. Must have been a good date! Quote
Jeepnjay Posted June 1, 2012 Author Report Posted June 1, 2012 Here are some pictures of where she sits right now. Seems like June 8th is a popular date! Quote
Mark D Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 Nice quonset hut Jay! Came real close to buying one of those instead of building a camp in Maine. Liking the Ford behind the Plymouth as well. My grandfather taught me how to do valve adjustments on a truck just like that, same color too. Quote
Jeepnjay Posted June 1, 2012 Author Report Posted June 1, 2012 The quonset looks better from afar! Long story short, It collapsed and is propped back up now. its just temporary till I put up a straight wall building. But for now it is a 30x70 flat surface to work on, you wont stay dry though:( That is my old 62 f350 welding truck in the back with a 35ft sign crane on the back, comes in real handy. Its got a fresh 390 in it and runs mint, but doesn't see much use thes days, other than building quonset huts:) Jay Quote
yourpc48 Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 Welcome to posting. I like the Plymouth and the Ford. I havent started my Explorer rear swap yet. I am supposed to get the rear for the project in a few days (keeping fingers crossed). I have completed the front disk swap with the Explorer Calipers and rotors. The bakes are working well and I plan on going to a parade and show this weekend in a the next little town over from me. Hey sorry your hut leaks? I would kill for a space like that to work. Lets just say I have to mow the floor in my shop once in a while. Have some fun with that old sedan. Quote
rtlsnakedaddy Posted June 2, 2012 Report Posted June 2, 2012 a ford guy and a mopar guy?i thought i was the only one lo <snip> welcome aboard! benny Another here. Been a Blue Oval man from a Blue Oval family. The Mopar connection comes from the wife and her family. I've got my Mustangs and she's got her Jeep's (all straight 6 4.0's). We've had a few over the years since married, and I love the performance and torque they produce. My current project '54 Chrysler has a 265 Spitfire, and I'm loving it. Eric Quote
Jeepnjay Posted August 9, 2012 Author Report Posted August 9, 2012 Well I have not got the plymouth into the shop as af yet, still working on my 47 John Deere. But!!! I got a Hemi! Two actually, a 276 and 291 Desoto. Really hard ti pass up @ $250 each.. The 276 is at the machine shop right now and will be going in the plymouth. The 291 will go in the loft for a future project. I was going to keep and overhaul the original flathead six, but it was too tempting to put the hemi in. So i will update when there is more to report. Jay Quote
Mark D Posted August 12, 2012 Report Posted August 12, 2012 Jay - I'll be headed up to the camp on Labor day weekend. Going to be around? I'll bring beer! Quote
Jeepnjay Posted August 13, 2012 Author Report Posted August 13, 2012 Sure will be.. And maybe by that time she will be in the shop. If I don't have my tractor done by then, I have really fallen behind. Quote
Jeepnjay Posted March 6, 2015 Author Report Posted March 6, 2015 (edited) Wow,, It's aldready been a couple years with not much progress to report, Time seems to fly by these days. I hav'nt got much done on the Plymouth, besides firing it up to move it from one spot to another. But thats about to change. We are taking a family vacation to Oshkosh WI for the EAA Convention in July, and the wife asked if I could get the Plymouth done and proven in time to tow our popup out there! I told her i would try my best, So here I am again. I did get the Hemi done, looking for a suitable five speeed to adapt.I bought a 96 explorer for donor parts such as rear end and disk brakes. After gutting the interior of all the accumulated junk and carpet i discovered the floor isn't as bad as I thought and the frame is near perfect. while cleaning I was happily surprised to find every piece of trim except the two rocker mouldings. I will start a build thread soon and I'm counting on you guys to keep me on task. I've got a couple jobs to move around and then i will dig the Plymouth out of the snow and put her on the lift to start the process. Wish me luck! Edited March 6, 2015 by Jeepnjay Quote
