old rat 49 Posted March 24, 2012 Report Posted March 24, 2012 I want to have some new rockers bent for my P15. What gage or thickness is the sheet metal on these cars ? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 24, 2012 Report Posted March 24, 2012 there is a guy on the e-bay selling these in 18 guage for about 44.00 or so odd dollars a pair..I bought a set..I like them..I have not installed them yet..next major body project...but I do not expect any difficulties with them...just be prepared to get solid panels without rocker molding clip holes punched in... Bingster Posted March 24, 2012 Report Posted March 24, 2012 Tim, those sound interesting. Who is the guy? How much would it cost to have a shop cut out the old ones and weld in these new ones you think? Quote
old rat 49 Posted March 24, 2012 Author Report Posted March 24, 2012 Going to have mine made taller because I don't have rocker trim. Quote
kkaiser001 Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 Hey, How did those vent windows I gave you work out? I posted some info a few days back on a guy I found that makes all kinds for sheet metal parts. I also received a catalog from the plymouth Dr. he has some very nice stuff listed and priced as such. If you have the cash he looks as if he would be a good choice. Went a hour up the road today to get some parts for Tim and saw a 41 Cry. 4 door for sale on the side of the road. Body looked good but did not check out the floors. It had a flathead Spitfire engine that ran I wanted but he would not part it out. He was asking 1200.00 for the car. Did not seem too bad but as you know I cant bring another car home to my yard. Quote
Hunka-Junka Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 I need some inner rockers for my '47 Plymouth 2-dr coupe. Anybody have any links of where I can get some? If not, how hard are they to make? Quote
55 Fargo Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 TRy the plymouthdoctor in your home state. How bad are yours? Or you can have some bent at a local sheet metal fabricator, then weld in. CAn yours be patched and repaired? Or they gone beyond recall?..... Quote
Hunka-Junka Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 I found a place not too far from me, just a little NE of Lansing in Perry, Michigan. I couldn't find a website for them, but here is the contact info: Plymouth Doctor Restoration Parts, LLC PH# 517-625-7596 Point of contact is Wayne Brandon. I plan to give him a call today. Hope this helps somebody out. Quote

Funny you should mention plymouthdoctor, I just found out about them while looking for other parts! Not sure, but I think they need to be removed and replaced. They have irregularly-shaped and randomly-spaced rust holes all along the underside of them. I haven't thought of patching them, just replacing them. Maybe I should give them another look. How hard is it to fabricate them if I have access to a brake and a shear? Quote

Do some searches, there have been plenty of others on here that have done this very task. I actually eliminated my inner rockers, used square tube steel 2X2, then fabbbed and outer rocker over this, it worked out okay, and is good and strong Quote
Young Ed Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 If you have access to a brake it should be fairly easy. They are basically a Z shape with 90° corners. Quote
