knighthawk Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 so I sold my '67 Toronado to a guy that lives in Sweden,,,and he asks me to ship it to him ! So, how do I do that ? Who do I contact ? Any body here done this kinda deal ? Quote
greg g Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 I would start by an internet search for overseas auto shipping. Quote
dezeldoc Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 I would tell him to make all the arrangements because you will burn up a lot of your time for free. If he wants it shipped tell him you will help with the loading of it at your place but he will have to make the arrangements. It is going to have taken to a harbor somewhere which means it will need to be trucked to a company that will get in the container. a lot of hassle, been there and done that several times. Quote
freemansrodnrat Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 There are a lot of shipping companys in Europe and he must arrange this from sweden, I know some in germany, if this help I can get the adresses to your buyer Dirk Quote
Mark D Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 Post a Private message to Member Uncle-Pekka. He lives in Finland and recently had a car shipped over. I'm sure he'll give good info. Quote
knighthawk Posted February 10, 2012 Author Report Posted February 10, 2012 thanks, I think I've had some dealings with Pekka, now that you mention it Quote
1941Rick Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 Make sure you have the money in the bank before letting the car go.....hear story's about bouncing cheques, phoney money orders and bank draughts....There is even a guy in British Columbia that takes pictures of other peoples cars then sell them on the net....takes the deposit and runs....he recently got busted......Almost getting nervous buying or selling these days.....Hope your deal is a good one.... Uncle-Pekka Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 Larry, I can give you some recommendations (actually I just sent you a PM). However I agree with the guys here that the buyer has to make the contract with the forwarder. You may help at US end by discussing with the forwarder and making agreement of when and where to load the car etc... However do not make any payments or such economical bindings. One good neutral way to make payment is that the buyer pays forwarder/broker in advance and he gives you cash in person for the car before he claims the goods & title. Both parties must have trust to the forwarder, he is the link in practise and carries big responsibility also to deliver the car intact. For my part - I have a couple of broker/fwds I trust and have very good experience with. Then one that let me down - He's no longer in business. /Pekka Quote
oldodge41 Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 My daughter is traveling to Sweden in March but a Toronado is just to big for a "carry on". Quote
knighthawk Posted February 11, 2012 Author Report Posted February 11, 2012 thanks "Pekka' P M sent............old dodge, maybe your daughter could 'drive ' it over, like when they 'drive around the world' on T V . Maybe she would like to take 'an ocean voyage' ? Quote

knighthawk Posted February 18, 2012 Author Report Posted February 18, 2012 OK, so this 'buyer' says he's got a shipper from Houston to Sweden., but none from here to Houston. So, does anyone know of some haulers that go from from Houston to my place here.........1/2 way between Whictita Ks and Jopin Mo ????????? Quote

knighthawk Posted February 18, 2012 Author Report Posted February 18, 2012 I agree 1000% , I just want to give him some choices to choose from. I know if I was buying something in a foreigne country I would need some help. Quote
dezeldoc Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 Get a hold of Ben D on the hamb he is very honest and reliable. Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 I would agree with what others have said that the buyer should make all shipping arraingments. Then again: It is extremely difficult to arrange US road freight from Europe by phone and e-mail. What I suggested to Larry is, that he should just talk with a forwarder and then give the contact info to the buyer in Sweden, let him make the contract and payment. To make the road a bit smoother and easier to go for this fellow acorss the pond... Quote
Fireball Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Usually the decent worldwide shippers also have great deals with freight companies for US inland road transportation, like 50 cents a mile or so. I have imported four vehicles from states and all of them needed some trucking to harbour, and my shipping agent handled that part as well. Sweden is full of quality operators, tell the guy to ask for a tip from a local forum there, since theres also couple of known clowns ripping money there. Quote
