hi ,my chrysler new yorker 1948

had a problem not charging recently and have replaced the generator but now the voltage regulator needs to be fixed or repaired. Are the solid state replacements any good or should i just bite the bullet and buy one from andy birnbaum's?Thanks in advance,am also considering a pertronix replacement for the points but have heard it can make the car hard to start?

The regulator is not very complicated. The service manual has instructions for setting the contact point gaps. I was able to open mine, clean the contacts with a point file and check the gaps. It now works great.

Might be worth a try before ordering one overseas.
