greg g Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 OK so you may be sensing a common thread here but part of Dad's stuff is a collection of a couple dozen different types of barbed wire pieces. Trade Axes any one??? Utility pole insulators, Stoneware ginger beer bottles, blue glass bottles, Patent medicine bottles. Then there is the drawer full of blow torch heated soldering irons, and about 40 lbs of good old high lead content solder, about 25 lbs of lead sinkers, and several ingots of lead for making sinkers, and or smoothing the seams of your chopped 50 Lincoln. Those soldering irons may be worth something. Don't know how much myself, but I see people selling those at the swap meets all the time. Never priced them though. Also blue glass seems to sell good, again not my thing but have seen them going for good prices on ebay. As for the barbed wire, I should pick some up to keep my neighbor from running his ATV in my yard. About a month or so ago I found this mess one morning. Ground was real soft at the time too. Since he's normally never home at a reasonable hour then the snow melted and actually there were no ruts. Otherwise, he'd be repairing my yard! First picture shows where he made his exit from my yard. To the right side of bushes is my yard. Second picture shows where he came from his yard into my yard, where the water is standing along the property line (bottom half of picture). These are new neighbors only about going on second year now. Several of us around him have had to complain about various things since they moved in. They are young though, only in their early 20's, but that's really not an excuse. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 You are right there Norm. I bought my house at 23 and would never dream of doing anything to harm my neighbors yard! I feel bad when I mow the grass and the clippings get on his sidewalk! Quote
Brad Lustig Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 This would complete the collection! Quote

I feel bad when I mow the grass and the clippings get on his sidewalk! Ed, most people wouldn't regardless of age. This guy seems to be either an idiot or never reached the mentality of a 6 year old though. Take a look at that second picture. He was making circles in his own yard. We even have to tell the guy to cut his grass in the summer. The guy owns some sort of auto service or body shop. Up until last spring he would bring some of the rice burning clunkers home and park them in his driveway and leave them there for several months. Doesn't do that anymore. I think the neighbor on the other side of him reported him to Neighborhood Services because they came out, fined him and made him remove the clunkers. They don't take care of the house at all. As an example, during the warm months they'll have at least three or four parties with a bunch of other young couples. Believe it or not, during the parties they are running around on the roof throwing water ballons at one another, dumping buckets of water on each other from the roof and even dragging the hose up there to spray the others with. During one party late last summer I was across the street talking with that neighbor. The people at the party were not on the roof this time. However, they were spraying water at one another with the hose. Now, that's not so bad I guess. However, at one point they were spraying water with the hose right through the open front door, into the house at someone. The outside of the house still looks ok, but who knows what the inside is like. It's a shame to see this because the previous owner had nice flower gardens outside and spent a lot of money and time remodeling the inside of the house and landscaping. This idiot just runs over the flower gardens with the lawnmower. Like all houses, the leaves fills up the gutters and you have to clean them out. However, this guys solution to the problem was to take the downspout off when it stopped up from leaves, etc. instead of cleaning it out. Last winter he had an icicle hanging from the gutter to the ground on the back of the house where the downspout was supposed to be. Think Neighborhood Services got after him for the downspout too when they made him remove the cars. Still didn't clean his gutters though. If the outside starts to looking bad we won't stand for that. In fact, he's now on the list for people in our block watch group to keep an eye on. Out of about 500 houses, over 100 of us are very active and won't put up with someone not taking care of their house, at least on the outside. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 It seems like there is always 1 house like that in any neighborhood. My next door neighbors aren't quite that bad but I'm pretty sure their house is filled to the brim with junk. When their cars die they sit in the driveway and get a new clunker. When they get to like 4-5 they get towed away. Maybe 3 years ago they got somehow a nice craftsman snowblower and lawnmower. Didn't put them in the garage cause its probably too full(I've never seen the door open in 5 years) and instead put a tarp over them in the back yard. Tarp has now blown off and they are sitting in the elements. Neither has ever been used. He does pay someone to mow the lawn so atleast that gets done. Quote

When I first moved to Tennessee I was living in an apartment building for a short time. One night around 2:AM my dog woke me and wanted out. So I threw on some pants and a shirt and took the dog out on his leash. The apartment pool was right outside the back door of my apartment. The pool was closed but I observed a couple of heads bobbling in the water. They also saw me and climed out of the pool (a guy and a girl) jumped the fence and ran through the apartment complex buck naked. I spent the rest of the time in the apartment training the dog to wake me when ever anyone went swimming after the pool closed. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 Don, They are wearing just plain everyday cloths when playing with the water. I really don't think you'd want to see any of them buck naked if you get my drift. To see them that way would be considered "Cruel and inhumane treatment". My brother in law had a little more luck with his new neighbors a few years ago. A single guy bought a house two doors from him on the same side of the street. Right after that, they gutted the house, built a huge new garage on the house that any of us would like to have, to store his boat in. The guy bought the house for two strippers to live in. They are very quiet neighbors and the two strippers like to sun bathe in the back yard. However, not long after the house was finished and they all moved in, they put up a high privacy fence. Quote
Don Coatney Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 they put up a high privacy fence. Thought that is why they invented step ladders:cool: Quote
Young Ed Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 Norm I will admit to spraying one of my friends with the kitchen sink sprayer out through the window screen. He was on the deck. I believe it was payback for him getting me with the hose earlier in the day. Quote
1just4don Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 There are indeed alot of barb wire affectionadoes around,,,I am NOT one of them. Barb wire was invented to keep cows in. MY cows use it for a neck scratcher and the only stuckee is "ME". Been there and done that millions of times, actually getting within 10 feet of a barb wire fence and my blood is spilling on the ground somewhere. I have gone to using smooth high tensile with 'heat' and it works so much better for me,nice to be around. TRY to find a barb wire discussion site(if there is one) like this site is for old cars. Thats where your needed interest can come from.. OR goggle same and see what happens. I cant get far enough AWAY from same!! Maybe someday my opinions will change and I will collect. I collect mostly worthless junk and DUST, myself!! As for the idiot on the 3 or 4 wheelers on somebody elses yard. NIP this in the bud real quick,,,it only gets worse and NEVER gets better. I would think a no non sence one time statement to him about it should do the trick. IF not sic the law on him for tresspassing. Your liability for HIM on YOUR property is outrageous,,,even a tresspasser in the dark, stumble in a hole, trip over something, its your problem. They do this thinking this doesnt hurt anything. What he was doing by just a little is testing your patience. Let him have it. As to the drunken parties with roof antics,,,call the law for disorderly conduct,,,specially if late at night. They will never figure out which direction the complaint came from. Otherwise smile and wave as a good neighbor would. Maybe visiting about neighborhood concerns about others may make his light bulb turn on. Tell him how the nice places arent good enough, sorta. Get him educated as to what the neighborhood expects. Are soldering irons and axes collector items,,,guess I have some for somebodies collection too. I do have a few old telephone and telegraph insulators collected,,,that IS interesting in its own right. They have different shapes, like horse cock and different stamped patents and dates on them. My late uncle contributed more than I did. Right out of high school I was a lineman for the railroad communications dept. TRIED to save a bunch of that stuff but generally ended up breaking them somehow, and they are heavy carrying up and down poles all day in the ditty bag. You can make some beautiful candle holders of same,,,no body will have one to match!! All mine are stuffed away, someplace. Quote
