White Spyder Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 Found this one out by a wood pile. Guy said he ran the motor last week! It was mostly there with a few extra parts thrown inside. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 It's a wonder he hasn't made it into a sawmill. Quote
captden29 Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 i wish the windshield visor would fit my car. i have a 1954 chrysler and a guy who has an NOS one wants $750 for it. i told him thanks, but the car isn"t worth too much more than that. i know you have to pay to play, but it seems to me that this hobby has gotten out of hand dollar wise. i think ebay has alot to do with it, but it is also very helpful sometimes. double edged sword. not that long ago i could buy a used one much cheaper and spray paint it and be happy. this is part of the reason drivers and survivors are becoming more popular. my car drives great, so i will enjoy it without the visor. capt den Quote
Greenbomb Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 It's also why "rat rods" (I don't like that term) are so popular. A protest against big buck trailer queens and the street rod "establishment" in general. All the expense has taken alot of the fun out of it for me. As said, ya gotta pay to play. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 (edited) I've noticed a lot of sellers are starting the prices on ebay for notably more than they used to. And, a lot of things appear to sell despite that fact. If I need something badly enough, I will pay some amount more than I like, but would not want to give $750 for a visor, either. Just keep watching and sometimes an item will come thru for cheaper. But it takes your time to mess with it. There is a feature whereby ebay will email notify you when an item you have indicated shows up. You just have to go thru and find that feature and set it up. I don't know if you can specify price, but if they tell you each time another Fulton visor comes along, you can check it out by just clicking on the link they send. I never liked the term "rat rods" also, but there seems to be a growing trend of people that do. When I go to the cruise-ins alot of people only glance at a trailer queen and spend alot of time looking at my low budget, near stock, many colored Plymouth. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 I think most folks are intrigued over the work in progress..they often have a similar car sitting at home..in similar..also a work in progress...ideas and how to and such can be easily gleaned by looking over the next man's project..plus it allows your own mind to work a bit imagining the end product and how you would trim it out for final product..basically a lot more fun than looking at a finished car..now don't get me wrong, finished cars are fun to look at also..but whats left to do to them? the thrill is gone.. An example of that is the moredoor thread that falconvan brought to light. Lots of interest on other projects that are similar to theirs. In fact I think it inspired one to begin tackeling their project. Quote
RobertKB Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 Found this one out by a wood pile. Guy said he ran the motor last week! It was mostly there with a few extra parts thrown inside. Back to the start of the thread. That looks decent enough it would be worth your while picking it up if the price is right. Looks like all front and rear axles are there. You would need drums and wheels to be able to move it. I see two wheels in the picture already. Does he still have the drums? Could be a great parts car but if it is running it is probably too good to part out. Could use it as a trade for another project or could be a project for you down the road. It's too good to let go to the crusher. If the seller is motivated, go for it! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 I don't see how you could make that too good to crush comment after seeing the D25 you parted out..not saying it isn't so..just questioning why you cut up a good car yourself..but yet others need to save them? just curious as to your logic Quote
White Spyder Posted January 8, 2012 Author Report Posted January 8, 2012 I am not looking to buy this one. I found a visor for $200 here locally. Matching faded paint was a challenge for the guys at the PPG store. Quote
captden29 Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 spyder, now that is a more sane price and within the parameters of reality. looks great on the car too.we do not have any good swap meets either by themselves or at a car show here in wilmington, NC. you need to go to charlotte in the spring for any decent vendors. car show vendors here are all local business and crafts. i will keep looking. capt den Quote
