jchalk1949 Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 :rolleyes:Out and about when I heard a squeel. Left the parking brake on and drove about 1 mile. Released, but it s mells burnt. AND yes I have a light under the dash, above the parking brake handle. My question is has anyone installed a buzzer, and what kind. Yes I know it was a dumb move, but in the Christmas spirit please be kind. Quote
T120 Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 I have a brake whistle on my 1948 D25 Dodge linked to the hand brake. From the information I have, it was installed as an "add on" when the vehicle was new from the Chrysler dealership. The other shown was for installation on my 1948 Nash and it has a Nash part number..looks identical. It uses a tee in the vacuum to the wiper motor and emits a shrill whistle when the hand brake is engaged - works very well. I'm not sure where you would find one other than at a swap meet or perhaps ebay... Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 (edited) You'd think there would be some buzzer out there that would be activated any time the warning light is on. Here's a link to an ebay page listing several kinds of buzzers..............http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p3984.m570.l1313&_nkw=6+volt+buzzer&_sacat=See-All-Categories Edited December 24, 2011 by BobT-47P15 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 I haven't had had a need for one of these since I divorced the blond.. Quote

JIPJOBXX Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 Or maybe a smell detector to detect the odor of burnt brake bands I have done this more than once before and so when I had a new band installed a year or so ago I bought enough material to replace the new one when once again I go sailing oft with the brake on!!! Have a Merry Christmas everyone!!!! Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 Do we need more alarms? My wifes caddy has too many alarms and too many buttons. When an alarm goes off I have to stop, get out the owners manual, spend a half hour searching for the right page, and find out the gas cap is not tight. I was driving it the other day and I bumped a button somewhere. Next thing I know there is a strange womans voice asking me what the problem is. Seems I butt dialed onstar and the automated system called them even though we had unsubscribed from that service over a year ago. Now I am afraid we will get a bill for calling them. The lady did have a sexy voice. One of the things I really like about old cars is they are simple. Very few bells and whistles. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 Not hearing very well, I went to Radio shack and got a small electronic buzzer for a couple bucks and wired it into the pilot bulb of the turn signal switch. Now when I forget to turn it off, my wife nudges me and I know why. Surely you could just tap into the light wire for power. Quote
stan's52 Posted December 25, 2011 Report Posted December 25, 2011 The brake material is some remarkable stuff. I drove my new F 150 home from the dealer with the e brake on. I am sure it didn't do it any good, but 5 years latter no problems with the brakes. My daughter drove her cah home from san Diego 30 miles with the e brake on. It cooked the rubber dust covers, but the bonded lining seamed to be ok. I don't think it hurts every now and then to leave the e brake on, but don't recommend it. Stan Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 25, 2011 Report Posted December 25, 2011 I don't think it hurts every now and then to leave the e brake on How long do you recommend it is Ok to leave it on? Quote
stan's52 Posted December 25, 2011 Report Posted December 25, 2011 Don I don't recommend it be left on all. All I am saying it doesn't seam to hurt the lining when the e brake is left on. but when people with a memory like mine get behind the wheel anything can happen. Stan Quote
T120 Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 (edited) ..Anyone ever seen someone driving a front wheel drive vehicle in the winter on a packed snow/slippery road surface with the driver oblivious to the fact that the parking brake hasn't released,(front wheels pulling-rear wheels locked)? I've seen it on a couple of occasions-kinda funny Edited December 26, 2011 by Ralph D25cpe Quote
