windsor8 Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 I hope this isn't a dumb question. The question is, did P15s and D24s have window sticker when they were new? Quote
busycoupe Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 (edited) I think that the window stickers, as we now know them, came into use sometime in the late 50's early 60's. There must have been some other way of listing the price on our cars. I just found this on the web: http://www.nwccc.net/garage/window_stickers.html Dave Edited December 15, 2011 by busycoupe Quote
littlemo Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 Now THAT was interesting !!!! I love that kind of "little-known" stuff !!! Cass, alias littlemo... Quote
windsor8 Posted December 15, 2011 Author Report Posted December 15, 2011 I was sure someone could answer my question. Quote
greg g Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 One could only immagine what might happen if such a bill was introduced in congress today. Quote
michael.warshaw Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 I have a friend who collects ws, and back in the day thy were called muroni, ive seen some of his from the late the 30's Quote
B-Watson Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 Pretty cool story, although all references to sales do not hold water. Sales slumped in the early 1950`s due to government restrictions during the Korean War. Sales increased, hitting a peak in 1955 but the recession that hit in the fall of 1957 resulted in falling car sales. The introduction of the window stickers coincided with the economic rebound after the recession. Sales of everything swung upwards. The stickers created an even, honest field for car pricing, but that did not stop dealers from playing with trade-in prices, profit margins, etc. to lure in customers. Quote
Jim Benjaminson Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 Window stickers came into being in 1959 Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 If you can work with some program on your computer.....even Microsoft Word......you can probably produce your own version of a window sticker. Won't be authentic, but the average onlooker probably won't know the difference. Quote
T120 Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 This sheet was with some of the records I got when I purchased my 1948 Dodge from the second owner. It appears to have been copied with an old style duplicator or mimeograph.Although I don't think it would qualify as a "window sticker",I gather it is the actual price charged the original owner Quote
greg g Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 I think Ed from the Down n Dirty rod shop ( a member here) has a deal on his web page where he reproduces a window sticker. Rather tha prices, the ones he does shows car details, the folks most poeple ask about at shows. In the example above, Im thinking the fellow got ripped off. I believe there was no Special Deluxe in the Dodge line up and the manufacturers suggested price was quite a bit less tha the 19 + hundred. And would;t a Special deluxe have come equiped with a radio and heater??? What you have there is an example of why the standardized sticker came into being. The dealers would make up their own pricing sheets, a lot of times recharging the customer for what was already in the car. Quote
T120 Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 Canada Dodge (Plymouth) would likely have Special Deluxe:) ...Correct,it is a Canadian Dodge. Quote
dndrodshop Posted December 25, 2011 Report Posted December 25, 2011 I don't know for a fact but if there was anything is was the dealer's letterhead with a typed out list of options and prices. I did the attached for a Street Rod. (Have also created for Ford, Chevrolet, Studebaker and an Anglia) 48PlyWindowSticker.pdf Quote
