Labrauer Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Hey guy's if I added a vacuum canister to my 48 plymouth would it make the wipers work any better or at least still work when I accelrate. I know that I can go eletric but really don't want to. Thanks in advance, Larry:confused: Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Yes it will help if it has enough capacity. The 1948-53 dodge trucks had it as an option. It will need to have a one way check valve at the manifold supply. A lot of caddy's and Lincolns used these extra vauum tanks taht looked like bulk ribbed 1 or 2 quart tomato cans. Larger is better. greg g Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 yep!! about 8 to 10 swipes, usually more than enough unless you are on a real long hill. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 in addition to the cannister the installation of a dual action fuel pump will greatly improve the available vacuum...there are a number of great sources for vacuum cannisters..as I was parting out a Ford Tempo I removed the cannister from behind the headlight panel passengers side..this unit can be bolted neatly out of sight within the inner fender..quick trip to a wrecking yard would probably net you one at a fair price.. Don Coatney Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 With this can I get 7-8 swipes after I shut the engine off. Quote
Labrauer Posted December 8, 2011 Author Report Posted December 8, 2011 thanks for the information guy's on the vacuum canister on the 48 plymouth. What I have been looking at is one like Don has on his car in the pic he has on here. I don't know if he has a one way check valve on his or not. Do you Don? Thanks in advance, Larry Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 the white device that the big line is connected..appears to be the check valve Quote

With the check valve the canister holds the highest vacuum the engine pulls. That is how I can run the wipers with the engine not running for a few seconds. Quote
