Finally found the missing lighter.....& paint progress report

Whew........was looking thru a tub of Plymouth pieces tonight, and found

my lighter---in with a container of assorted knobs. Stuff got tossed into

various containers after the "big wind" by me and assorted helpers. Now

trying to find and organize things, at least a little bit.

I haven't been using the lighter

in the car as there is a pushbutton for the oogah horn in the lighter

position. But am keeping the lighter for a time when I give it back it's

rightful place. I looked off and on for a lighter with a good looking

knob.....since getting the car in 1973. Found it about a year and a half

ago. The car where this one was found was only 12 miles from the house.

Always something fun with an old car.

Now, if I could only locate my pair of "figure 8" door locks.....Dale

could install them on the car. Have only been using chrome plugs

in the lock openings the past several years.

He's making progress on repairs............has painted the trunk lid, and

now both doors, inside and out. Looking good so far.

Bob I know you mentioned a few times about having your interior redone. Since you've got the car all apart and are getting a new top I believe are you getting the seats done too? I might have a set of door locks no keys of course.

It was funny at the time but as I get older I see less humor in it..I was actually at a store parking lot and watched as an elderly man came out to the car with some packages in his hand..he is fumbling for his keys in the one poket, evidently not there so swaps packages to other hand..check that pocket..finds keys, unlocks door and gets in..sad part it was a convertible with the top down..

keys for a convertible are for guys who don't carry a pocket knife..it is cheaper to just leave the door ulocked if the top is up..that way you will still be out your radio etc..but hopefully your canvas has been spared...but then you always get the disgruntled crook who feels he has been robbed by you not having a gun under the seat, cash in the glove box or monster high dollar quick to trun stereo/navi aid..so he slits your upholestry as he exits..

All the years I lived in Ohio, I always left a couple $$ in the glove box, change in the ashtray, knobs off the radio, and never locked the doors.

I figured it was a small price to pay not to replace windows, seat covers, locks, etc.

Generally speaking, I would not normally lock the doors......only maybe at

a car show to keep any idiots out who might want to sit in the car in my

absence. Guess that means I would have to put the top up:D.

Otherwise, I agree that unlocked is the best way to prevent

top cutting. Mainly, I want the locks for looks as they are supposed to

be there.

Not sure I would go off and leave the lighter there either......as those

get stolen from time to time.

Bob, I have a set of locks that I took from a parts car but the long rod on the back which actually locks the door mechanism was missing on both of them for some reason. If you only want them for appearance sake, you can have these for the cost of postage. They really aren't saleable any more. Either PM or email if interested and I can send pictures.
