I think I had the time of my life yesterday when I helped a friend with his 50 chevy convertible. I rode so nice and the 6 cly ran well. I have not rode in a convertible since I was a little boy. I got to get me one someday. You guy's with convertibles are very lucky.

Rodney it surprises me with all your cars you don't have a convert. I don't either but its pretty high on my wish list. In the meantime I get to ride and drive these

Wow Ed, That '51 convertible is gorgeous. I seem to remember you saying that it was in rough shape once and restored. Is that right? Love the color too:).

Nice cars but what gives? I am not seeing the tops down on most of these cars.:P Unless it is bitingly cold, pouring rain, or snowing, the top should be down. What's the point of owning a vert otherwise? I often see people in new convertibles with the top up and the weather is perfect. If I had a vert, the top would be down as often as humanly possible.

I had 2 out of 3 down and I agree. Its a rare day when I ride in one with the top up. I drove the 63 valiant from MN to Peoria IL with the top down. Wanted to do it on the way home too but my copilot threatened to find another ride and I had kinda filled the top well area with parts purchases.

Yup pretty rusty. Basically all floor and rockers were replaced. A very solid 52 2dr sedan gave its life for the majority of the metal along with countless other cars along the way. The car was rusty enough that the trunk area sagged slightly and the doors would no longer latch. I remember a few times as a small child riding in the pass seat helping hold the door shut while it was moved. The picture below is right before the restoration started. I was 10 or 11. It wasn't finished until I was almost an adult.

PS one of Dads former convertibles in the background. That one along with a couple other cars was sold to pay for the 51 resto.

Back in '07, we rode the 100 miles to Tulsa with the top down.....got a

bit of sunburn. That was to attend the digging up of the buried 57

Plymouth.

As some may not know, the 57 sat in water for a long time and

didn't fare so well.

Ed, I did notice 2 of the 3 you posted had the tops down. I was really referring to the other cars that were shown. Great to know you like the convertible to be a convertible and use it as such!

Ed great variety. Flathead six, slant six and big block v-8 are my guesses.

Right 218 225 and 383 2bbl.

I've even got a convertible....it's a red '66 Sport Fury. I've had it since 1985 and haven't done much with it (what else is new...). The last time I drove it was in the late 1990's. I haven't mentioned it here because this is a flathead-era forum.

We need pics! I've gotten quite fond of the 66s after driving dads wagon.

Young Ed you are my hero:) That fury is to dye for, The convertible is a car that until recently I just did not have any love for. I grew up in two convertibles and suffered in them. New York is cold in the winter. I miss my dad and that's why I long for one. I think after the dust clears I am going shopping fo one. I could kill two birds with one stone by getting a 1931 Ford roadster. That would be real nice.

Rodney you are right. To me in the cold climates like NY and here in MN a convertible is a second car to be stored during winter. I friend of ours and his son both have modern mustang converts a 94 and 99 I think and they store them all winter.

The fury was a "restored" car that Dad picked up fairly cheap after watching the price get lower and lower for almost a year. Sadly the guy spent a ton of $ on it but wasn't much of a mechanic so it was never a reliable driver. I drove it home when Dad bought it and didn't feel safe over about 45MPH on the freeway. Its since had an entire front end rebuild a radiator and a bunch of other small stuff. It looks pretty good but the guy that did the body work was kind of a hack. As an example rather than take the back bumper back off to get the backup lights in he just cut the housings in 1/2 so they would hold the lenses but not lightup.

Hey John you have been holding back. Those cars are great. I don't feel so bad having that land yacht I got, The 66 chrager takes up the whole road

Thanks Rodney,

Land yacht. That sure describes these cars doesn't it.

You guy's must be kidding:) You have these wonderful cars tucked away and we have never seen them. OK everybody likes the B body cars. These Fury's were your parent type cars. Plus they are convertibles. JerseyHarold that car is dynomite:) Now I got to get me a convertible;)

Ask and ye shall receive. I took this today. Please don't laugh too hard.

I love it. Its even the right color! Nothing wrong with it not being perfect. Sometimes those are the best drivers. Just before he got the 69 sport fury Dad had a 75 olds 88 convert. Rusty as can be bad top torn seats but a great runner. We had a lot of fun driving that thing. Any rain that came in through the crappy top went out through the rust :)
