I have put several engines in cars since I was out of high school. I put a rebuilt engine in my 48 Plymouth without a hitch. I am so embarrassed to go before you with my plea.

first: I have left over parts!! I feel so stupid. I took the stuff off before I took it to the machine shop. I thought how hard can this be? I pulled the 48 next to the 47 and I can't find the parts. Is it possible there are differences in the two engines?

The last pic is the 47. If you look down by the dipstick you can see on the block 2 openings and over to the right another. Those are oil out, in, and gauge but I'm not sure which is which. But if you look at the other pic, the 48, the oil gauge is over by the oil filler tube. I looked and the 47 has the holes but there are bolts in them.

All the extra parts I believe go to the clutch and linkage but I can't find where it all bolts up. In the parts book there is an exploded view but I just can't visualize where they go.

I truly apologize for my sophomoric questions. It must seem silly to you old hands. But I'm a school teacher not a mechanic.

Don, if you want come on over and look at mine. most of the parts in the first pic go on the driver side of the bell and block. i believe the pressure side is the one closest to the back of the block with the 90* adapter in it.

Don, mopar 6's have an oil gallery that runs alongside the block on the dissy side, those "bolts" you refer to are oil gallery blockoff plugs.....any of those 4 can be used as the place to plumb the oil gauge and line TO the oil filter........on my 41 Plymouth I have the oil guage connected to the plug next to the oil filler tube and the line TO the oil filter comes from the plug in the gallery near the dipstick and INLINE with the gauge outlet fitting.

BUT the oil RETURN line goes INTO the BLOCK just above the large(1&1/4") oil pressure relief valve hex bolt......it goes INTO the relief valve.......the return line does NOT go into the oil gallery..........I just rechecked the 46-53 workshop manual as I was starting to confuse myself.........lol..........am correct, lol..........regards, andyd

To the best of my knowledge all P-15 bell housings are the same. Other years may be different. Are you sure that what you have is a P-15 bellhousing?

Bracket 6-53-5 as seen in the picture below bolts up to spring 6-52-5.

Look very closley at the picture below and you will see bracket 6-10-5 and between it and the bell housing you will see reinforcment 6-09-12.

Are your rear engine mounts unstalled correctly? Do they look like the picture below?

Little by little it's coming together. Thanks for the pictures. I ended up loosening the brackets on the bell housing so I could put the spacers behind. A big sigh of relief. I've got most of the other parts accounted for except the one pictured below. I just don't know where it goes.

Thanks - part numbers help - pictures help - I'm a slow learner. I've got to tell you this is the last engine I'm taking out.

30 years ago it was great fun rolling under a car. Now I've got to get taller jack stands because my gut is so big I can't squeeze under the car. Plus the getting up is not all that it's cracked up to be.

I truly appreciate all the help.

That's probably my next step. I'm just not sure it will be worth it. The carpeting has been glued down. Who thinks of those things?
