Lakermatt
Hello all, looking for a floor shift conversion for my 53 Plymouth cranbrook. It still has the hydrive in it. Please let me know if you have one for sale or if you know anybody that does. Thanks!!!
falconvan
Is there such a thing for these old mopar 3 speeds? I've never seen one but I'm curious myself.
austinsailor
I have one for a 3 speed overdrive for sale. It'll fit a non-overdrive with a small modification to the mount. I don't think that is what you need though.
greg g
Uhhh isn't a hydrive an sorta automaticly shifted trasnmission???? Guess I don't understand how the or why a changes can be made.
Plymouthy Adams
Greg, Hy-Drive is a true torque converter coupled transmission..it multiplies the torque 2.6 over normal and the tranny is a standard 3 speed..but due to the torque the internal gears and rear gear take full advange of the torque multiplication by having higher gears installed... Rusty O'Toole
3 speed floor shifters used to be a common accessory you could buy at any parts store. I guess now they are an antique. Why would you want to do this? The rationale used to be, for faster shifting but that would not apply to a Hydrive car. You would be better off with the column shift especially if you like to drive around cuddling your girl friend.
Plymouthy Adams
Rusty Rusty Rusty..nothing like the experience of hand slipping off the shifter as you shift from 1st to second..gee..I question your teen years..
greg g
shifting from 1st to 2nd on a three speed puts your fist against cold rolled steel, not warm smooth lady parts.

Common? I dont think so. Please post links to where one could by these when they were common? I believe they are very rare for Mopars. If they were common then there should be a bunch available today. Not so.
Rusty O'Toole
Don how old are you? In the sixties and seventies every auto parts store sold floor shifters, along with long shackles small steering wheels and 5 slot wheels. I would think you would remember that. Jegs still sells them. http://www.jegs.com/i/Mr-Gasket/720/7667A/10002/-1?parentProductId=1406823 Auto Zone sells this one http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/Spectre-3-speed-manual-street-floor-shifter?itemIdentifier=352794 And of course for real class, you have to spend the extra $$$$ bucks for a genuine Hurst shifter http://www.hurst-shifters.com/hurst-products/INDY-SHIFTERS/INDY-PICKUP-TRUCK-3-SPEED-SHIFTER Edited October 22, 2011 by Rusty O'Toole
Plymouthy Adams
I do not recall anyone here having one and if so they have not in my memory shared the photos or dimensions of any of the parts so that someone may in some manner duplicate it if but for thier own use..am not suggesting mass production of an item that may yet be a patent issue I know that this subject has come up more than one time here also..seems a lot of new folks grab an old Mopar and instantly think a floor shift is the answer..well..it could be if it were a simple common item..I would be more apt to retain a standard tranny with one of these... Plymouthy Adams
Rusty..buy a universal and hook it up to a 40's-50's Mopar three speed and report back..remember..no modifications...install as bought...
Plymouthy Adams
this is the application chart for the universal floor shifters of the time.. we had one person with a drawing and in the process of mocking up a shifter..I do not recall a finished product..maybe they can comment further as to the problems encountered..and I think I also remember reading something to the fact the old originals were not really slick speed shift units at that... AH..as stated..the cool factor...
Don Coatney
I was 13 in 1960 and I do not recall anyone with a Mopar flatty having a floor shifter. Nor do I recall anyone today having one.
Rusty O'Toole
I don't recall anyone putting a floor shift in a Mopar flatty either. You know why? They were boring. But anything with a V8 sure got a floor shift. Don't know why anyone would bother to build one when you can buy one for $39.95 and up. Plymouthy Adams
if you have a pre 57 Mopar floor shifter for 39.95 I will buy it..boring or not.. Put the lotion in the bucket...

You got the wrong guy. I'm trying to figure out how to hook a 4 speed to the stock column shift. As for installing something as bought with no modifications, where's the fun in that? The original question was where to buy a floor shift. I suggested it was a waste of time, but also gave 3 links for floor shifters at various prices.Where is your solution?
