ggdad1951 Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 so getting ready to take mine apart to have the shiney parts redone, what have you done for the rivets that hold it all together? Quote
Reg Evans Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 I drill them out from the back. The mounting screws will hold it all together when re-installed. Quote
HanksB3B Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 But I'm sure someone can re-brass-rivet the housings. I took the poor man's way out and used SS phillips heads and SS captivating washers. Looks o.k. no-one has said anything bad about it yet as far as I know, at least to my face. Good Luck, Hank Quote
Desotodav Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 The rivets that hold the speedo and instrument bezels on are called eyelets. I would imagine that they are available in your part of the world too. I picked up a pack of 20 (or so) from the local sewing supply shop for about $2. They were stainless steel and a perfect match for the original ones. The pack came with the little tool required to crimp the eyelet too. I can't show you any good photos as my speedo gauge (and pack of eyelets) is still down the shop having the indicator warning light installed. Take my word for it though, you'd have to look really hard to see that they're not the original thing. I also used them when installing the screws into the vent window channel rubber to prevent over-tightening of the screws. My original vent window rubbers that I removed seemed to have them installed - more as a 'sleeve' than an eyelet though. I'll send pics when I get my speedo back soon. Desotodav Quote
Merle Coggins Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 Yup, I got some eyelets from a hobby store. I had to drill out the holes about 1/64" larger for the 1/4" eyelets to fit. They worked well, but I found that they are softer than the original ones. When I installed the gauges and tightened the screws they squashed the eyelets, but it still looks fine. Merle Quote
Bradley S. Posted August 26, 2011 Report Posted August 26, 2011 I used the same eyelets. Got them at Menard's. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted October 27, 2011 Author Report Posted October 27, 2011 I used the same eyelets. Got them at Menard's. the local Menard's(es) I stopped at (4 of them) don't have the right size...all too small. ok so now i'll be search for hobby stores.... inernet searches for a supplier are fruitless...these seem to all be made in India and they don't respond! BOOO! Quote
Young Ed Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 Check hub hobby. I practically lived there when I did RC cars. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted October 27, 2011 Author Report Posted October 27, 2011 will do that on the way up or back on Sunday. Quote
B1B Keven Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 (edited) Here's where I got mine. I used brass for a bit of detail and installed them backwards (largest side in the back). http://search.store.yahoo.net/yhst-70912547478490/cgi-bin/nsearch?catalog=yhst-70912547478490&vwcatalog=yhst-70912547478490&query=eyelet%201/4&x=0&y=0 Edited October 27, 2011 by B1B Keven Quote
ggdad1951 Posted October 27, 2011 Author Report Posted October 27, 2011 thanks for the link, I e-mailed a different epay store about their options as well. Quote
catfishcuz Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 Check sewing and leather supply shops or sites they might have something that size. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 I just dug out what I used. They are from Leather Supply (or DT Creations) out of Portland OR. I got nickel plated 3/16" and 1/4" eyelets with the setting tools. A 100 pack of each size and the tools cost me $27.46 with shipping. As I recall I used the 1/4" ones but I had to drill the holes 1/64" over what they were. Mark, I'll gladly send you what I have if you want them. Then send what you don't use to the next guy that needs some. Send me a PM with your mailing address if you want them. Quote

ggdad1951 Posted February 7, 2012 Author Report Posted February 7, 2012 I got a package today....some eyelets and setting anvils. I'll let everyone know when I'm done so they can make the travel to the next person. I'll be able to include some brass eyelets I found as well for the next person. I'm assuming the beading is for the glass seal? Quote
