Young Ed Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 That is your starter solenoid I believe. Quote
Furylee2 Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 I think Ed is correct. The relay looks like this. Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 Hmmmm....that's the one for sale on E-bay. Just in case someone needs it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VINTAGE-OVERDRIVE-RELAY-NOS-/160623649440?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2565ea62a0 Tom Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 Is that one missing the top that holds the fuse in? Quote
Young Ed Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 Is that one missing the top that holds the fuse in? Nope I think its there. Quote

I have the one that came with my car, and a spare I picked up on eBay some time ago. I think the number stamped in the top isHRT 4002A. It appears the fuse holder is in that one. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 The original MoPar OD relay looks like this... Quote
47heaven Posted July 22, 2011 Author Report Posted July 22, 2011 The original MoPar OD relay looks like this... You know what guys...I don't see this on my car. I wonder if it even has a fuse. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 It could have been mounted somewhere else besides the firewall. Quote
steve57dodgetruck Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 Look up under the dash too. Mine is mounted on the Dash support brace. Quote
meadowbrook Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 Can folks supply pictures of the kickdown switch they use for OD? Are they under the pedal or at the carbie? Quote
Young Ed Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 My underhood pictures weren't close in enough to see the linkage but they go on the throttle linkage either at the carb or on top of the head. There were 2 styles. Quote
meadowbrook Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Are there any part numbers or switches for sale? Can you feel it in the pedal when you depress the switch? I want some kind of warning I am about to activate it so I don't downshift from overdrive while driving at say, 75MPH and run the engine past 3600 RPM. Quote
Young Ed Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Yes and you really have to push it to the floor so you'll know you're doing it. Quote
meadowbrook Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 So, any part numbers often used for OD kickdown switches? Quote
meadowbrook Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 So where on the head is your bracket for the switch mounted? There is no bolt hole on top of the head. Did you mount it under a head bolt? Quote
suntennis Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 The bracket for the kickdown switch bolts to the side of the block where the oil filter bolts (the rear most oil filter bolt or stud). Three places where you can get a kickdown switch are: fifthaveinternetgarage.com and look on page 3 in parts section; George Osche at 814-354-2621; and Studerbaker International at 317-462-3124. George Osche may be able to get a mount for the switch. Quote
meadowbrook Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 Are you sure on the 5th avenue web site? It say that the switch is for under pedal placement. Quote
Young Ed Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 The switch should work the same whether its under the pedal or on a bracket to be hit by the throttle linkage. Quote
