1940plymouth Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 We went to install the wheel cylinders last evening, there must have been a hairline crack An expensive endeavor that didn't work out, Just got them back from White Post. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 Are those cast? I'm wondering if it can't be repaired. Quote
1940plymouth Posted June 18, 2011 Author Report Posted June 18, 2011 Not sure, but I think they are pot metal Quote
Niel Hoback Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 They should be cast iron, pot metal won't rust. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 Did all four have cracks? Were they made in China? I had to replace on brake cylinder because of old age and tightening the pipe fitting to tight and then it cracked. Jon Quote
oldmopar Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 White post has been around for a while contact them and see if they will replace it. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 And if they don't, couldn't you weld the broken piece back on and re-drill the hole? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 I will admit to not looking at the backing plates rear brakes of late...but I seem to remember that the backing plate actuall locates the cylinder and locks if from moving...and the attaching hardware is not the principle means of locking the cyclinder...with this is mind..one could cut an L-shaped step bracket to encompass the broken flange and will be thick enough to drill and tap..thus the cylinder could be put in service. Of course..White Post may choose to resleeve another should you provide the core.. Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 White post has been around for a while contact them and see if they will replace it.That's what I'm thinking! I'm surprised they didn't notice the crack.Tom Quote
55 Fargo Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 Keep us posted Bob, hope all gets fixed up quickly. I just know , you need to take a ride in the "wayback machine", and you are not resting well, until this problem is fixed and the machine is on the road again......... Quote
1940plymouth Posted June 19, 2011 Author Report Posted June 19, 2011 Yesterday morning I took the wheel cylinder to a friend of mine, asked him if he could fix it, he said that he could add a stud, so here is the finished product. It is installed on the car, but that is as far as we got today, as I took my wife up to see here 93 year old Father, a total of five hours up and back. Quote
oldodge41 Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 Looks like that should work. Good thinking. Quote
