55 Fargo Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 Hey all, went for a ride to pickup milk and pop, and decided to take the 47. I then stopped in front of 1 of the Selkirk Mental Inst. buildings, and took a few pics. Hope nobody is offended by this,. the building is a beautifull 100 year old brick structure... Quote
Niel Hoback Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 That car makes any building look good! Quote
richards47deluxe Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 Nice ride!!! Those pictures would look great in black and white. Quote
W.F. Brown- III Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 Great pictures of the car and the old hospital building. I retired from Broughton Hospital, which is one of North Carolina's state mental hospitals. My office was in the main building that was built in 1877. I need to drive my '48 Plymouth over there and shoot a couple pictures. Quote
1940plymouth Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 here you go, one black and white, and the other antiqued. Those buildings brought back memories also. When I first went to work for NYC, I worked in Mental Hygiene over on the NY-Conn border, the buildings looked alot like the ones in the photos. I worked there for six months then went to work for the prison system until '03 Always enjoy the photos you post Fred, please keep them coming, Bob Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 Well, the Dept. of Homeland Security is going to be moving its headquarters into the former St. Elizabeth mental hospital in D.C., I work for DHS so I can vouch for that being an appropriate move , which means I'll need to prepare for the snide comments - so - no offense taken here. Otherwise, doesn't matter what the building is used for, its a nice building to use as a backdrop for your car. Quote

greg g Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 Reminds me of some of the scenes from A Beautiful Mind, with Russell Crowe. Both from Princeton and the institution he ended up in. Also funny that St. Elizabeth's is mentioned. In a series of books written by WEB Griffen, a small group of folks who adminsitrated the early days of OSS nee Cia, had their offices in the not yet full Department of Metal Health Building in Washington. Apparently the Army and Navy both had their own Intellegence departments and both argued against the need for a seperate independent unit. So they wouldn't allow them space in the War Department building. Also whenever an operative was deemed to be working not in the best interests of OSS and nation, he or she would be cashiered, declared unfit for service and rendered to a secure wing of St. E's "for the durration of Hostilities" if not for a longer indetermanent period of time. So what comes around goes around for St. E's apparently..... Quote
