There's a drive-in near you? I read somewhere that there was a revival for drive-ins but never heard much since.

We've got a drive-in about 30 minutes from us. Every Friday & Saturday night, it's packed. Tailgates opened, people sprawled out on blankets, eating freshly popped popcorn and drinking Cokes from the refreshement stand. It's such a cool experience to go back in time like that and see how movies used to be enjoyed.

We used to go to Independence MO on occassion when we lived in Northern MO. When we lived in Colorado, we went pretty regular to Ft. Collins. Fayetteville AR had a drive-in when we lived in Springdale in 2000-02. I went there quite a few times too.

Now that I'm in to bed before they light up the screen, we haven't been to Wichita or KCK. I'm anticipating that KCK will have Cars 2 opening weekend, and am planning on getting a good afternoon nap in and try to make it all night. IMHO, DST was the beginning of the end for drive-ins. Home video was the beginning of the screws getting tightened down on the coffin.

Again, just my opinion, drive-in movies are now more of a counter-culture thing for night owls and nostalgia buffs. For folks that don't have to be to work until 9:00 AM, staying up late to watch the opening feature is doable, but when one is going to bed usu. at 9:00 PM to get out of bed @ 5:00 AM the drive-in movie lifestyle goes by the wayside.

HOW CAN I BOOST THE SIGNAL on my stock 1949 PLYMOUTH radio ?? also how do i get rid of all the static ?? radio is newly rebuilt .. thanx for any input ...

put the little lady in the back seat with tape over her mouth..will control some static and chatter..poor quality,..sing louder than the speaker at what ever volume you have it set at..

check to see if you have a trimming cap on the back of the reciever to tune your radio for best reception..

Here's a site that let's you search for Drive-Ins by zip. http://www.drive-ins.com/dbdisrch.htm?status_op=open&zipcode=&distance=150&search.x=0&search.y=0

I think my stereo draws too much power to make it through a triple feature, let alone 2 flicks!

We like the drive in b/c its fun and inexpensive. $6 to see two movies! The only thing I'm not a fan of is keeping my eyes peeled for deer, and now armadillos, when driving the Chrysler home. The benefit of not having a top means the cold air keeps me awake for the drive home! The Mrs. usually checks out the night sky until she falls asleep and the pup is usually busy in the back seat catching bugs with his mouth wide open.

We have 2 drive-ins in the area although one is on the edge of closing. Land owner wants to sell for redevelopment. Part of back to the 50s registration includes a free trip to the drive in. Carmon and I went a couple years ago but missed last year due to severe weather. Planning on going again this year I'm thinking for Kung Fu Panda 2.

Hey Bobostki and Ramon how long does that 12v battery hold a charge when used? How often do have to charge it?

We go to the drive in sometimes and I'm afraid to leave my radio on as I'm pretty sure the car won't start if I have it going the entire time (it's a 6v with a 12v converter to the stereo). D batteries for the boombox ain't cheap. A spare 12 volt would take up a lot less space....

I've been to several car shows and cruises and played my oldies through out the day with no problems! I usually charge the battery the day before a show or cruise. I have never had the battery completely drained. I'm running a deep cycle group 31 battery with a 4 channel amp.

I remember trying to sneak into our local drive-in to see a tamed-down version of Misty Beethoven. Crawling through the woods with quart bottles of Schlitz in a backpack. That was the life.

Joe,

Does that mean you didn't succeed? What happened?

We usually got in but we did get caught a few times. It was embarrassing because my father was a lieutenant in the police department and the cop who was on duty knew who we were. But once we got in, we'd sit in the far back against this fence. You could hear the movie and everything. If anybody got suspicious we could just duck back into the woods again.

I'm an AM junkie; as long as I can pick up Cardinal Baseball, conservative talk radio, and some Southern Gospel music, I'm good. I thought about just having the old 602 rebuilt but I'm sure my wife will want more music.
