Reg Evans Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 I have a 62 Dodge D300 with a poly and it needs a set of exhaust manifolds. Both of mine are cracked and the old poly is very hard to find so far in these parts.Would your friend have a set for sale?? If so would he be willing to ship to Canada via FedEx?? Pat, Here's a drivers side manifold from a late 50's poly. Is this the same as your 62 ? If so and you are interested I'd let it go for $30 which is what I paid a few years back. PM me if interested. thrashingcows Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Here's a Poly 318 4bbl weiand for sale over on the C-body dry dock... http://cbodydrydock.com/forum_viewtopic.php?10.116995 Quote
Andydodge Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Reg, don't think that exhaust manifold is from a Plymouth based 318 as all the exhaust manifolds I have ever seen have the suds/bolts for each exhaust port directly above/below the port, they have a total of eight but all are above/below the port, as far as I know this arrangement went from 57 to 67.....that might be off the 55/56 Poly which I think were 270/277 cubes.....andyd Quote
Reg Evans Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Thanks Andy. I checked the receipt again and it says Poly 315,not 318. My bad. Quote
PatS.... Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 I missed the bolt location completely. This is the passenger side but drivers is the same style: Thanks for the offer Reg!! Quote
dezeldoc Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Pat, he has 2 center dumps. get me a zip code and i will get ya a price. Quote
thrashingcows Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 That manifold PatS posted a pic of sure looks like a early Hemi manifold. I wonder if they are the same? I know some of the earlier poly motors could easily be converted over to a Hemi with a Head and intake swap....as long as the poly was the in the same Hemi family. Quote

Seems the Poly was derived from the 354 hemi, but the exhaust bolts are in different spots from what I can find. Be nice if they do interchange...tube headers would be nice on the old D300 eventually. It would be too much to take if I could convert it to a Hemi...I'd be in heaven because I know where there is a 354 with a split block Quote
Reg Evans Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 I've been told several times over the past few years that I could turn my 315 Poly in my 58 Sweptside into a HEMI. Is it really true ? Quote

If the Poly motor and Hemi are of the same brand, size and relative year, then yes you can. You will need the intake, heads, cam, lifters, pushrods and probably the exhaust manifolds...but it can, and has been done. Quote
Kevinb71 Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Here's a link that discusses poly to hemi conversions. http://victorylibrary.com/mopar/hemi-c4.htm Hope it helps. Quote

You also have to use the correct pistons for the valve relief notches to line up with the new valve location of the Hemi head. Quote
dezeldoc Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 If anyone knows where a 354 poly motor is i would be interested in it. complete or just a short block. Quote

Actually, the cam/lifter package is the same as well as the intake manifold. Heads, rocker arm assemblies, pushrods, valve covers and exhaust manifolds are required. Depending on the exact engine, sometimes the pistons can be left but only if the cam is left alone. A high lift cam will require valve notches to be on the bore centerline as opposed to the Poly which are slightly off-set. Quote
