HanksB3B Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Is it glazed over? Hot Spots? Scored? How much to re-surface it? Hank Quote
Merle Coggins Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 If you're replacing the clutch disc than by all means do it. If you're reusing the existing clutch disc leave it alone but make sure it's clean. Just don't get any oil or solvents on the clutch disc. Merle Quote
Don Coatney Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 I once had a 66 Mustang that developed a terrible clutch chatter every time I started from a dead stop. I replaced all clutch parts twice to no avail. I then pulled the flywheel had it ground. For the few bucks it will cost I recommend it. Also to do it correctly the flywheel surface must be ground not turned on a lathe. Flywheels develop hard spots and a lathe cutting tool will jump over the hard spots and not give you a good surface. You can see the grinding wheel finish in the picture below. Quote
Young Ed Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Mark Call B&E and see what they'll charge you to do it. Shouldnt be too much. Quote
Dave72dt Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 It's one of the least expensive machining jobs there is and will give you the best clutch operation. The pressure plate disc should also be dressed but will require dissassembly. Not hard to do. Springs should also be checked for tension, just like valve springs. Or send it off for a rebuild. There's a good place in Stacyville, IA I used to use for all my tractor clutches. Quote

Mike@DRH Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Thank You for the kind words and the opportunity to do some work for you. Glad to help out and let us know if we can help you in the future. The "Bull Session" is always my favorite part of doing business. Mike I think Young Ed mentioned a "Twin Cities" get together, I think thats a great idea, maybe this summer? Anyone else in for it? Quote
