DollyDodge Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 That can be said of a lot of things that are 60 years old! Quote
52b3b Joe Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 I've use the body sealer that comes in the caulk tubes on two Corvairs I restored for the front and back windows on them...worked great but can easily make a big mess if your not carefull. None of the windows ever leaked when I used it. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Restoration Specialties has glass setting tape in different sizes. That's where I got mine. It worked good for the side windows, but I struggled using it on the vent glass. I finally gave in and let the glass guys set those two windows. http://www.restorationspecialties.com/ Merle Quote
DollyDodge Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Merle you don't happen to remember what size you used do you. It all seems to come in 1 1/2 width, but different thicknesses. Did you use the sealstrip all rubber or the gripstrip rubber and cork setting tape? the setting tape isn't very expensive, I might just order a couple of feet of each width and play with it. My vent glass is in good shape and is solid in their frames, so at least for now the vet glass is ok. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Sorry, I don't remember. I don't believe it was the cork stuff. I do remember ordering up a few feet of a couple different thickness stuff and used the one that seemed to fit the best. Merle Quote
pflaming Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 That channel (channel pn 23-09-52 ) has an added bar on the bottom with two slots in it. That is where the two clips slide. I cleaned mine up and it appears that 'bar' is a fairly high quality piece of metal. When putting this back together do we leave that "au natural" or coat it? It appears that any water that gets past the glass goes to this piece. Also there are two large tooth gears on the mechanism. Does one just clean that, or does one lubricate them? Got these channels off the glass, was easy by putting the glass in a pressure steamer. Quote

Got these channels off the glass, was easy by putting the glass in a pressure steamer. I had the channel replated with CAD. Both the widow regulators and door latches, I cleaned up and painted (CAD plating, or any plating can wreck the springs) but I then thoughly lubed all the joints and bearings. Quote
Jim Shepard Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 The windlace that I am now looking for are vertical pieces of 1/2" diameter foam filled material (about 24" long) with an attachment strip (with split rivets) that goes between the rear of the fender and the cowl (I think that is what it is called). It looks like the stuff on page 30 of the Roberts catalog. I have not checked with them yet.Barry I can't say for sure, but I don't think Roberts has the correct windlacing. When I did my resto several years ago I was told by the supplier that there was none to be had except for about 4 feet of the material (see photos). I purchased all they had. Hopefully, you can find some more... Quote
Desotodav Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 I had my channel and internal mechanisms zinc-plated. I used black Sikaflex from the caulking gun in the slide on the bottom and trimmed it up neat with a sharp blade. I used White Lithium Grease to lubricate the parts. I recall chatting about windows on this thread... http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=27778&highlight=door+window . Desotodav Quote
