49Bseries Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Thanks to Townwagon I have a better looking front end (I think anyway). When I first got this truck it had two painted steel grill bars and two stainless bars which bothered me to no end. I wanted them to match and finally saved up enough to buy some repaired and polished originals from Townwagon on this forum. It was a fairly good struggle to get the old set off. My original hardware was very rusted and the nuts were toast. It took two trips to Ace to figure out that the nuts were size 12-24. While at it I replaced the headlight and parking light doors and added a fender step. I am leaning towards eventually painting the truck blue. Here is a before and after - What do you think? Quote
Dave72dt Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 (edited) The grill looks fantstic. Much better with all the stainless in it. The single stainless looked out of place with the two painted ones. Might have looked OK if it had been the bottom one. Nice job on the step too. ggdad1951 Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 where is the "jealous" emoticon? Quote
Reg Evans Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Ah...looks much better. I like the black. Don't see many all black ones. Some stock hub caps (painted red center) and beauty rings would be nice. Quote
smallblockjunkie Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 did you check under the paint to see if they arn't stainless also? Quote
49Bseries Posted December 22, 2010 Author Report Posted December 22, 2010 Thanks for the kind words everyone. I did hope when I first found the truck that the painted bars were SS (actually I thought chrome at the time), but they are definitely painted steel. The all black is unusual, but I am not too sure it brings out the lines of truck as well as a lighter color, but it will have to do for now because my budget is strained from purchasing several things for the truck (including a fresh air system and Truckmaster heater). I have the hubcaps which are off because I am rebuilding the front brakes, but I definitely want some beauty rings. Last night I spent several hours polishing the chrome instrument rings and knobs. MBF Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Looks good! Real good. Always liked the 48-50's. Mine is a '49 with a 52 nose, but I kinda liked the way that looked so I didn't convert it back. Seems like someone did the conversion awhile ago and it stuck! I registerred it as a '52 also which is a long story that involves a guy that had just gotten out of prison who was standing in front of me in line at the DMV. Mike Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Looks alot different. Good job! Tom Quote
