BobT-47P15 Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Good point, Tim. I'm sure most of the fellows joining in lately do not know about the assistance list. Is greg g still in charge of that list?? How do they get on it &/or find out who is....... I am available to help in the Joplin, MO area. Quote
Normspeed Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 I'm still on it too, in the L.A. area and surrounding communities. Quote
bob westphal Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 I looked on the P15-D24 web site and I can't find anything like an emergency service. Quote
Normspeed Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Bob, I think it's only available on request, if you're planning a trip. Some members were uncomfortable with having their contact info and addresses put up in the public area. Me, I'm ok with being out there. Who knows, if a thief comes over maybe they will drop something of value before they leave. Quote
BloodyKnuckles Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 I would be more than happy to assist anyone. I would like to be added to the list. Let me know how. BloodyKnuckles Quote
rearview Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 I'd be more that happy to be added to the list also. edit... hey, this is my 100th post!!! Quote
bob westphal Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 From what I've seen of almost everybody on the forum, If I was in their area and had trouble, they'd give a welcoming hand. In fact I would guess that if I contacted those members living in an area I was going to travel through, before I started on the trip, they would welcome a visit from me even if I didn't have trouble. Anybody traveling through western Washington north of Seattle is welcome to stop by and visit me for any reason. Just let me know you're going to be in my area. Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 I'm on the list for the I15 area between Victorville, Ca. and Las Vegas, Nv. the I40 area from Barstow, Ca. to Needles, Ca. and the Hwy 58 area from Mojave, Ca. to Barstow, Ca. Anyone who wants to be placed on the list must contact greg g on this site and send him your information. You can send him a private message. Dennis:cool: Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 I'm already on the list, and as Tim mentioned I wouldn't care if it trouble with the modern car or your old one. When you get down to it, you really don't have that much trouble on the road. At least I haven't. I've made many trips in all kinds of cars since the 60's and have been stranded only once in all those years. That was on a trip to Williamsburg, VA about 1994. Was spending the night in Richmond, VA. Next morning wife and I got in the van (90 Caravan) and when I hit the starter, nothing happened. Wouldn't even turn over. Found a Dodge dealer about 1 mile up the road and had the van towed there. They claimed the starter went out and needed replacing. Then they claimed it went out because of a short someplace. Of course, that took several hours to trace. The van hit the shop about 8 AM. Around 2 PM and $500 lighter I was on the road again. If I had the tools and a place to do it, I could have done it a lot faster and for under $150 for a new starter. (That $500 did not include towing, used auto club for that). Of course that was long before this forum even existed. You never know when something like that is going to go out, no matter how well you maintain you car. So, this list would be very handy if needed. Quote
1just4don Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Dont know WHY anybody would be traveling in the 'boonies' where I live, but I do have a pickup(soon as I get a new tranny) and a car trailer that could get 'most' cars, vehicles on and to a better repair shop,,,or I do have a ton of tools,,,waaaaay too many by some peoples accounts. I would be pleased as punch to be the right person in the right spot to "help" anybody!! I live by a small town closer to Norfolk Nebr.,,,see I told ya nobody wants to travel HERE!! Cept maybe in watermelon season,,, d;~) Home of the famous 'Norfolk Melons' Quote
rearview Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Home of the famous 'Norfolk Melons' Must.... resist.... Quote
1just4don Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Rearview, I am at a loss,,,why must you 'resist' Norfolk Melons'? You do realize that 'only' women have trouble when eatting the seeds,,,men do NOT!! Course assuming you are a 'guy'. AND PS!!!--its all a rumor anyway,no fact to this fiction!! IF eatting a melon is my ONLY vice,,,I guess I dont eat enough of them!! Quote

Merle Coggins Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 I was just thinking about this the other day. I'm a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, and part of the membership includes the "Gold Book". This book contains the names of every member, throughout the world, who is willing to include their info. It is organized by state and city and has a code following the name and phone #. This code indicates what type of services each member offers, ie. phone calls, tools, trailer, room & board, etc. This book also lists all Honda Motorcycle dealers too. It is published annually and sent to all members in January. I keep it in the trunk of my bike all the time. I have yet to have to use it, but there's a sense of security knowing it's there. I have used it a couple of times to locate a dealer while I was traveling, but haven't needed to call on the assistance of others, yet. There are letters published in the membership magazine about those who have had very positive experiences using the Gold Book. I was thinking that it would be nice to have something like that with this group. I realize that it wouldn't be feasible to have an annually printed and distributed book, but rather a database kept by someone that could distribute it to those who want it. It sounds like this already exists. It just needs to be updated and distributed. I'm in. Where to I send my info? Merle Quote
greg g Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Send Me a PM with your info, typically name phone adress, cell and email, and what you got for help resources, air, lift tool storage, whatever. As stated, I keep the list, and distribute the information only on specific Member's request. I try to keep it regional, and as up to date as possible. When a request is made, I will email the info to the person who requests it. when it was first proposed there were alot of folks who were concerned about the privacy of the information, so this is how it developed. Currently I am the only one with the information. I am located in the East, so if some one would like to volunteer to also have the data, I would like to forward the list and info to some on west of the Mississippi so there could be more then one source. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 I would thing that it would be best to have only one person maintaining the data. Otherwise it's to easy for changes to happen on one and not the other, unless there's a way to sync them. Merle Quote
blueskies Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 I think I was on the original list, but if not, count me in. Pete Quote
