Does anyone with a P15 have a cable operated windshield wiper motor?

Or do they all have that lever on the motor, operated by the "L"

shaped rod connected to the dash knob?

We found the cable style motor on the early 49 coupe and wonder if

it's correct, or a make-do replacement item.

The cable is about a foot long - looks like a small speedometer cable.

System shown in the parts manual ----

You don't see anything on the dash except the knob.

The rest is up under the dash.

Turning the knob moves the cable, turning on the wiper motor.

I suspect this is another thing done by previous owner that isn't

quite right for the car.

I have a 12volt cable operated english style wiper setup on my 1940 Dodge, which is similar to the aftermarket hotrod style units I've seen in US hotrod magazines.........this is not what you are referring to tho'...........andyd

Andy..I thought the same thing when I read the title of the post..the company that sells these big time is just up the road from me..<50 miles...however I also adapted the cable wiper system prevelant with the LBC's to include the Chrysler intermittant wiper controller to operate the motor..makes for a nice set up..my parts come from two different LBC's because of post height and gear size..they need to match and most LBC's that are equal are too high a post, the lower post were unequal gear ratios..(thus the need for two left posts)..as it works out I got the correct wiper post to match factory height and actually sits within the factory standoff and also the exact degree of swing as factory..it is so sweet to use these as they can mimic any and all wiper patterns..

somewhere at the house I have one of the small wire activation assemblies he is referring to..

Tim.whats a LBC?.........I used a pair of BMC/English wiper heads but mounted one upside down to reverse the cable drive so I could have "clap your hands" wipers rather than "wave your hands" wipers..........make sense?.......lol.......see attached pic..........andyd

LBC = little British car....I have installed this setup in three of my cars now..my latest being the best method yet and will likely upgrade the previous ones to this level...I have read articles in reference to Mazda using this similar setup but the article did not state model or year...I have never seen cable drive in a Mazda..anyone else? Bueller? Be interesting to look at one if at all available...their stands maybe be a better swap candidate..

Bob I would have thought the same thing if I saw that. When I saw one come out of a p15 club coupe here I told the owner the same thing. However now with two of those coming out of p15s I wonder where they came from? Perhaps some came with them? Perhaps they were a common replacement back then?

Here's another view of the cable end.....see, it will accept that chrome

screw on collar that goes on top of the dash, below the knob.

Maybe Plymouth had a pommy engineer working on their car design staff in late 1945.......I would have bet money that a cable wiper wasn't original to mopar but looks like maybe they did have them.........andyd
