Been thinking my 2 door sedan P15 might look nice with a Continental spare. Any ever done that way ?

do you mean like an aftermarket continental kit?

I would be interested to see one as well. I kinda thought that a 53 chevy belair continental kit, I once saw, will look perfect on my 53 desoto!

I think I saw a P15 once with a spare mounted on the trunk lid.

Of course, it covers the brake light in the process.

The car was a piece of yard art, but as I recall the thing didn't

look too bad. Never seen another one that I know of.

I for one can not see why it would be considered for a factory option. I have never cared for them even on full custom tail draggers. The ones that were functional increased the length of the car at least a foot and had to be hinged to allow the trunk to be opened, then you had to work around it to get anything out of the trunk. If it is fake then its about as useful as the new stick on ports similar to the old Buick port holes of the early fifty's. kinda like a diamond in the belly button, of no practical use. This is just one old mans opinion, as they say each to his own. Don't mean to offend anyone here but I have my own opinions as most here do.

James, diamonds in belly buttons came along long after your prime..maybe that is why you have trouble with this..lol 'nuff said...!!!

anyway..if mother Mopar had any inkling of an idea these cars would have been attractive with a continential kit..grant you they would have been on the available list of options...very few Mopars had this option..the 54 was one of them though..I would not want this on my 54 either

I, personally, have never liked continental kits on any car. On a P15, I think it would look particularly bad. However, that is just my two cents worth for what it is worth, and it may not be much.

very few cars really look good with the kit..I think the early T-bird was one but then again that could be because I am so accustomed to seeing them on this car along with the 56 Crown Vic..

January 11, 1954 Factory-installed Continental conversion kit availability announced to the dealers ($140.00 MSRP). I think the 54 Plymouth kit added to the length of the car, featured a cover spare tire well, special trunk mat, extra hubcap (wire or wire cap) station wagon bumper and a few other "soecial" attributes...I believe the article said this was a first for Plymouth...

Three or four years ago at a February car show here called Street

Dreams, a fellow displayed a 1947 or 48 Chevy full custom convert.

It had, among other things, a continental kit.

Can't find my pictures of it.

The fellow had just bought the car before putting it in the show.

A few days following the show, I saw the car at a local body shop -

he was having the continental kit removed.
