JIPJOBXX Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 Back in 1968 I had this beautiful 1960 Pontiac Catalina Convertible. It had a standard three speed on the column and was powered up with a tri power carburetor set up! It was a pretty fast old car and if I had it today it would probably be worth over 50,000 dollars. It was one cherry old ride and just fun to put the top down and enjoy the California sunshine!!!! Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 this was just hashed out in Jan this year http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=14477&highlight=worst Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted March 6, 2010 Author Report Posted March 6, 2010 Tim that was the worst car not the best car! I have had alot of interesting old cars but my Pontiac was probably the best of the best! Worst of the worst would probably be 1949 two door olds 88. Had it about two weeks and it just blew itself apart and I left it on the road side back in the 60's. Quote
Robert Horne Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 For the $ value, a long ago I bought a 77 Corolla for $50, that I used for years, until he salt eating eat made it unsafe to drive. My 38 Couple I bought in 1986 for $400 was a great value. Have no idea what is worth now............ Quote
Flatie46 Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 The 88 jeep cherokee I'm driving now may get the award for best bang for my buck. It's not pretty, I treat it like a borrowed mule. I've used the hood as a work bench, the bumpers for battering ram. I've stood on the top to trim trees[ and let em fall on it]. I bought it 5 years ago for $1400 from the original owner. He had put a remanufactured long block in it at 248000 miles. Had 278000 when I bought it now has 352000. I've spent less than $500 in that time. The guy I got it from is amazed, I guess I am too. BobT-47P15 Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 (edited) Jon, I also owned a 1960 Pontiac Bonneville convertible (in the 70s) and it was a nice car. At the same time, I also had a 1967 Ford Galaxie 500 XL convertible. Another good car. Had to decide which to keep, so kept the Ford, sold the Pontiac. That Ford went a lot of miles, during which time it had two replacement engines, but it was a neat vehicle. Just a couple years ago, the ex-wife sold it to a collector from another state for pretty good money. My former Midnight Blue P15 coupe with painted wire wheels on the right....... ptwothree Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 '67 GTO 4-sp ht. Bought it from a friend in '74 who was freaking out over the gas embargo. I paid $500 and worked at a gas station at the time so getting gas was no prob. Great looking car and a fast ride! Best car for the $$.....'71 Datsun 510 2dr. Drove the wheels off it for 3yrs. with MANY trips from AZ to CA before she blew....Paid $40 for that one!! Quote
Dave Bohn Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 I hate to admit it, but my best cars have been modern. 2003 Ford Escape bought new, not one ounce of trouble so far (knock on wood). Jeep Wrangler, rough ride but the most fun to drive for whipping around corners and being windblown. The car that still my favorite is my D-24, after driving the Jeep driving the D-24 is smoothest experience, like manuevering a boat on a smooth lake. Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 This is a tough one for me. 95% of all my cars were Mopars. The one I enjoyed the most was a '76 Cordoba. 360 4bbl. No Corinthian leather. Velour interior. Or my '68 Charger R/T. 440 Magnum. It probably was the fastest. Tom Quote
